Where is the database Stored?

Ken-Russ wrote on 7/10/2022, 10:18 PM

I have installed the Photo Manager Deluxe on my Surface which does not have unlimited HDD space. When I try to make the working directories on my network drives I get an error message saying not valid drives.

Where can I store the database within the program parameters to allow me not to fill up the HDD?

Regard
Ken.

@Ken-Russ

Hi

. . . . Where is the database Stored? . . . Where can I store the database within the program parameters to allow me not to fill up the HDD? . . . .

The database is in C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Common\Database, however it does not contain images, only references to where they are located, which albums they belong to (if created) etc, and so is relatively small, eg for 10,000 images the database file size is approximately 15 MB in size,

Hi John

Thanks for that info.

So what happens when you inadvertently click on an image that is stored on a removable drive and that drive is not currently connected to the device?

I have thousands of images, across a number of such drives. How can I best manage them with this program?

Regards
Ken.

Hi

First you should see the thumbnail is missing as seen below, clicking on it will produce sequence of messages depending on the action you take, 2 are shown below.

If you do not delete the entry in the database, the image will become available when the drive is connected again.

. . . . I have thousands of images, across a number of such drives. How can I best manage them with this program? . . . .

That is a good question, the answer to which, and whether it can be done, depends on what you mean by 'manage'.

Hi John

By manage I mean control for duplications etc. But I would expect the database to manage duplicate files, even if the storage device is not connected.

Thanks.

Hi

. . . . control for duplications etc. . . . the database to manage duplicate files . . . .

This is not one of the features of the program, nor of the other 'file management' software programs I have used over the years.
