What size should one's photos be?

Having just purchased Photo Story 2015 DeLuxe, but, before I start, can anyone clarify on what size one’s photos should be to obtain consistently smooth playback?

I recall I did have a Magix program years ago that after burning a slideshow to DVD found that playback juddered and was told that one’s photos should be 1024 x 768 to avoid this problem. Is that still the case?.

Hi

The size of the photos depends on

Whether you are creating a slideshow or creating a DVD or BD disc.

For a slideshow the resolution should be equal to the device being played on eg for widescreen HD TV or projector 1920*1080px.

For DVD or BD then the size is irrelevant in that the images will be rescaled to the correct resolution for the disc type.

However for best quality - the source images must be not be smaller than the viewing image size, eg if viewing at 1920 * 1080 widescreen, using a 640 * 480 image will result in blocky artifacts and pillar boxing.

While pillar (or letter) boxing can be acceptable, the upscaling of a low resolution image is not.

Many thanks for the information.

Having taken a lot of (my) time putting a slideshow together in the past, burning to DVD, and then as time passes, sometimes quite soon after, find that the DVD keeps stopping in the DVD player, I now tend to avoid burning to DVD and for example, with MEP that I also have, look to convert in a Quicktime format.

One other thing that I have learnt and wish I had done so from the beginning was to save the actual project folder so that should I want to make changes or update I still have the original files.

Thanks again!
