What is Sound Cloud and what can it do for me?

I looked up a name from my elementary school days. One hit took me to Sound Cloud where "he" had placed several of his song recordings. I put "he" in quotes because I'm thinking it is probably "Junior," that is my old classmate's son of the same name. Anyway, my main question is whether Sound Cloud restricts you to uploading your own original compositions plus public domain (I imagine Bach and Joplin for example are the public domain), or can you upload your rendition of somebody else's copyrighted song? Some song well known to the public.

@Cameron

All the information you require is on the Sound Cloud website - scroll to the bottom of the homepage for links.

. . . . plus public domain (I imagine Bach and Joplin for example are the public domain) . . . .

Thanks for the feedback. I started this in the Off-Topic forum since it isn't explicitly Magix in topic, though in fact I would be using Magix to create a recording of my own of this or that hit song I have the sheet music for, so it does have a connection implicitly. I just now looked at the legal tab at the bottom of the Sound Cloud page. "Any unauthorized use of copyright protected material within Your Content (including by way of reproduction, distribution, modification, adaptation, public display, public performance, preparation of derivative works, making available or otherwise communicating to the public via the Platform), independent of whether it is or becomes unauthorized at a later point, may constitute an infringement of third party rights and is strictly prohibited."

I take that to mean I can work up my own recording of George Harrison's 'Here Comes the Sun' for playing in my own house, but I would not be allowed to upload it to Sound Cloud for anybody else to hear.
