What is best formta from HD to DVD

1940 wrote on 4/26/2014, 9:12 PM

Hi,

I have been given a card with  m2t video.

I transferred it to th PC and imported it into VPro X4 .

I have done some editing and wish to export it as a full file and then import it into a new project so i can do final editing, titles etc.

Reason I am not doimng this in the original edit area is that there are tracks coming out of the ying yang and it would be too confusing.

So I don't lose quality, what is the best export format to choose please?

Ultumatkey this will get to DVD and also as a file for TV Channel.

Thanks

oz

Hi Oz,

I don't understand why you have tracks up the ying yang if all you did was import the m2t files and did some editing. All of the m2t files should be on track 1 or 1 and 2 if you put the audio on a second track. So why so many tracks?

I would do everything in one shot unless I had some complicated special effects that slowed down everything. Then I would just do that part separately, export to mp4 and import into the main project.

I have projects with many video files and photos combined, and everything is linear, all on the first couple of tracks except for some pip and other effects, and some additional audio and music.

Hi,

This one is a bit of a mess due to several m2t files not syncing due to blank frames at start of file and audio muted at end of files. Had to cut and paste a lot spreading over several tracks, as well as a new audio file to replace the orig camera mic one.

Normally this is no problem however this one is different.  In fact a 'PITA' .

Anyway, have exported avi, mp4 and mpg as options.

Thanks for the answer.

Hi,

Your originale file is mts format or m2ts this is normally full HD 1920 x 1080 px Using Magix video you can use Export as Magix video (Ctrl Alt M) this is the best format without quality loss, file extension is MXV. Also you can export in mp4 using maximum quality 15 and max bit rate.

Some software can export directly in mts (AVCHD)

Now that's some good news..

Is this correct?

If I export as MXV, I can import into new project as MXV and not lose any quality.

Brilliant if correct :-)

I have used mxv for some things with no problems, it is just that upon export it says 25fps. I am in North America where we use 29.97fps, so I haven't explored this format much.

I still don't understand the multiple tracks for cutting and pasting. The video should still be on track 1 unless you have pip sequences or something. I would like to better understand. Perhaps you can explain your workflow or method in more detail? Screen shots?

HI,

The video is of a live muisc show. It was shot with a pro HD camera and given to me on a Flash Card.  The files were in a folder. There was an IDX and 3 m2t files and a dat file.

I imported just the 3 m2t files to Track 1 as usual however they would not join correctly no matter what I did.

They would touch each other but as I said before there was blank vision and no audio on the start and end of each clip.

I tried them in my other progrs, Power Director, and trials on Vegas Pro and Sony Movie with must the same results. Other forums suggested tsmuxer, dgindex,MakeMKV and we checkjed the file info in mediainfo.

Upshot is I had to do a lot of slicing, cop and pasting thus these pieces, some of them very small, were spread over 6 tracks.

When adding titles through the project and cutting out unwanted parts of the show, I prefer a clean 1 or 2 track timeline.

So that's the story.

Do you mean there was a gap of less than a single frame between them? I sometimes get that strange result when importing MOV clips from my Canon Ixus 220 HS. I simply remove the sub-sized frame at the end of the left clip and then join. In my case they are always separate clips, so seamless continuity is never an issue. That might not be true in your scenario, which I still don't fully understand.

Yes I too admit it is hard to understand. I have been on some pro forums and they too are a bit lost.

I have not yet got into HD cams yet but it seems many need a special program for that make/model which will brings together the clips which have been separatd due to files size maximum when recorded.

Some have said there is/was a bug in some of the Sony cams which presented blank fames.

It is not my cam  and I do not have the program which joins them up perfectly so I was stuck with it.

Hi Oz

Yes you are on to it with your last reply.

Have you tried right clicking the clips straight after import and selecting "Create frametable new" this usually gets rid of the blank frames and audio sync issues, but note that it could mess up your edits on an already edited project.

Hi

@1940

You have already asked this question one month ago and received answers to the issue.

If you do not have the software to join the clips together correctly then as you say 'I was stuck with it.'

This may be the correct software if you know the model of camera used.

Have you been back to original camera owner and asked them to import / reconstruct the video for you?

John

Hi John,

The previous question was how to IMPORT to the Editor in which I was kindly given advice, but this question was the best way to EXPORT from the Editor.

The only reason I have gone back into these gory details is because I was prompted to do so.

No I have not been able to get back to the cam guy because he is overseas and non contactable. If so, I would have had this resolved at the outset as he would have transferred it direct from his cam to my PC rather than via the flash. I do not even know what model his cam was. I know it was a very exy pro Sony and about 3/4 years old, but thats's it.

Anyway, once again have beeen given great help here and am now on my way.

Thanks again

oz

HI Scenestealer,

Thank you also for the help.

I have decided to do a littel testing for my own benefit and in case I am confronted with this time consuming thing again.

I open a new project and loaded the 3 m2t files on the same track in order.

I chose to Create new frametable with each file and watched the bar at bottom go across twice for each file.

Closed the project without saving.

Opened a new project and loaded the same files I loaded at first.

Played at the joins but still the same prpbem.

Shouldn;'t I have saved the 3 files and then loaded them into a new project?

I followed this great page here..

Hi oz

AFAIK the frametable information is referenced to the original material so that is why you do not need to save anything.

Did what you did have any effect on what you saw on the timeline with reference to solving your problem? It sort of seems that Magix are saying that you need to reimport it to see the change so saving as a "take" or saving the project would not help.

One other way you could try is going to the Program Settings and checking the box beside "Recreate the Frametable on Import"  and then importing the clips into a new project. This can sometimes have a different outcome compared to doing the action after import.

None of this may help however and you should probably try the TSMuxer Method Emmrecs described in your prior Question on this subject.

Hi,

Thanks for the contuuing help guys.

I will do what you suggest Ss when I get a chnace later today. I didn't notice any dif when I did it on the timeline.

I also got this info..

If you still know how to launch and use the command line, it's just
copy /b file1.m2t + file2.m2t + file3.m2t result.m2t

I will try TSMuxer as well.  I did years ago and somehow recall it as being very confusing. Anyway will give it a go for sure.

Quite amazingly I found a DVD of the show which the camera guy must have given us which I didn't know about until yesterday.  It does still have one tiny vison glitch in one of the joins but at the other it is perfect.

If all else fails I may be able to use the VOB files as mpg for some of waht i need to do with this thing.

Once again thanks..
