What could cause the loss of vocal quality in Audio Cleaning Lab 16

I am converting vinyl records to MP3 with Audio Cleaning Lab 16.  After the import and before any cleaning the vocals are of slightly garbeled and their volume is reduced.  I am using Vista with Realtek HD Audio Manager.  The sound card is onboard an HP desktop.

The first album I did yesterday seems OK but everything since has been discarded.

THANKS!!!

And the answer is "a bad onboard sound card".  The first replacement I tried was a Diamond Extreme 5.1.  It is a very basic card and although it worked it didn't have the features necessary to take full advantage of Audio Cleaning Lab.  It will provide adequate playback only.  IMHO they aren't worth the $20.00 price.  I returned it and got Creative Blaster Audigy SE.  Its doing a very good job for $30.00.
