Web Properties (Link to File)

Working in Web Designer Premium 17, I successfully linked an object from my website page to a jpeg file by going to Web Properties' Link to File (PDF, AVI, etc.). However, the linked object always appears in a browser. Is it possible to show the jpeg file only and not nestled in the browser? The same occurs in all browsers.

No - that is what browsers do - there are strict limitations on what occurs when you link to images only, PDF files etc and these are controlled by the viewer - by default browsers will be display linked to objects in a browser window where possible or ask the user if they want to download the file.

To do any other would be a major security issue involving the launching of software on the viewers computer - this is not allowed as images can be crafted to contain viruses, and malware.

Are you actually trying embed the file from another site into your website?

The file is not from another site. The jpeg file is located on my desktop. Attached is a preview sample, from another program, that if your mouse hover over the cake, the picture of the guy drinking appears; and you can make the object any size and locate it anywhere on the page. But that came from another program called Serif's Webplus X8 (Insert > Interactive object > Pop-up Rollover). And Xara Web Designer may not be able to do it. Thank you for your help.

Hi

Xara Web Designer has the same features - to do this

  1. Create a new layer and name it.
  2. Ensure the new layer is selected and add the image to it, resize and position it.
  3. Right click the image layer and select Layer properties and uncheck Hide
  4. Select the cake right click it, select Web Properties, Link, Pop up layer and set this option to the layer created above.

If you want a mouse over event then use the Web animation, Mouseover dialog instead of Web properties

I was able to successfully create the rollovers. Thank you so much.
