VPX - Upgrade 15.0.4.163 - New features other than those announced

browj2 wrote on 5/9/2017, 9:56 AM

I thought that I would start a thread to get an idea as to what is new in this upgrade that is not part of the adverts. I invite you to add to this anything that you find that is new or different from before. As for the new features and add-ons, note any particularities or nice features that you discover within them.

OBJECT PROPERTIES

To start it off, the Object Properties interface has been changed. There is now a button to copy the properties to the clipboard and paste as text in a text editor, and there is more information it seems. Also, the Look up table (LUT) loader has been moved from Effects to the Object properties.

I would still like this to be added to the Movie Information screen and the Project Temp Folder to be able to export a listing of everything that is in a project or movie.

NEW BLUE ESSENTIALS

Dual Booster - preset Add Pop - this is the Vivid feature that I had been looking for. Nice

Magnifying glass - very useful - including different shapes and possibility to modify frames with colours, size, etc.

Reflection - very interesting.

Hi John CB

. . . . the Look up table (LUT) loader has been moved from Effects to the Object properties . . .

This gives the impression that only Camera LUTs are available, however it is possible to browse from here to find a different LUT.

The option to 'Load' a LUT file in the Effects tab is no longer available.

Also in the Object properties dialog - there appears to be no way to revert an Object colour back to the default colour other than by using Undo - however if you have made many edits before wanting to revert back to the original colour this is not possible.

. . . . Dual Booster - preset Add Pop . . .

Can you post a screen shot of where Dual booster is please - I do not have this option, on mine the Add Pop appears under both Color Fixer Pro effects, the integrated interface (OFX?) and the original NB interface.

Hi John EB,

Dual Booster is in Essentials 3 that came with VPX upgrade yesterday.

You can see the list on the Magix site. Scroll down a bit to the NB effects.

For object colour, I did a select colour to see what the default was. See below.

Then I added it to custom colours. Unfortunately, custom colours disappear with the session. We should ask Magix to have them stay as part of the ini file. Strange that it can't be done.

Let me know what your values are. I think that my screen needs recalibrating. The Windows background is close to cyan, whereas it is quite blue on my other monitor. It seems that PaintShop Pro knocks out the calibration.

Hi John EB,

I have essentially (couldn't resist ) the same list as you under the same title. I just noticed that the new ones are called NewBlue Video Essentials. New folders/headings appeared when I downloaded and installed the ones that came with VPX yesterday. Did you not get these?

Hi John EB,

See my last post above.

It could be that your subscription has not expired so you only received a patch, whereas in my case, my subscription was at the end and I had to "upgrade" to renew it. With this upgrade comes the stuff that you see on the web site, including the Hitfilm Superhero vapourware and the two NB Video Essentials (III and IV).

New patch just for HitFilm

Changes in version 15.0.4.164:

* Plug-ins from the Hitfilm Toolkit Pack are now correctly displayed in the Mediapool

I have updated and the ones that I tried work. In one instance, some of the parameters did not kf with the master line and I had to keyframe them separately.

One problem with many of the new effects is the amount of space taken on the screen. Some are quite wide and require scrolling horizontally, and some are also quite long, requiring full screen height. I think that Magix needs to try to find a way to optimize the space used. Sliders of some kind would be useful for the RGB parameters rather than having to input a value; both are needed - input box and slider.

@johnebaker

Just to clarify, with the upgrade, for which I had to pay for a 1-year renewal, there was an email with 3 downloads, 1 for Hitfilm, 2 for NewBlue, and each had an activation code.

--------------------------------

Here is an example - full screen on my Surface Pro with screen resolution of 2736x1824

Above is first part, below is the second part after scrolling to the bottom. There are a lot of parameters.

There is no way to widen the left column, so some of the titles of the effects are truncated.

Last changed by browj2 on 5/10/2017, 9:15 AM, changed a total of 2 times.

After I updated to v15.0.4.164, my program boots into full screen mode. When I drag it down by the title bar (or click the "downsize icon there to do the same thing), the program freezes after the re-size, and locks my PC, requiring going to the Task Manager to shut down VPX and free up my PC (a 1-1/2 year old HP desktop running fully updated W10) with 16 GB of memory and an Nvidia video card. I don't recall this being a problem before these couple of updates push down in the last couple of days, and VPX runs fine if left in full screen mode). Am I the only one to have this issue?

browj2 wrote on 5/10/2017, 7:00 PM

Hi,

I tried on my laptop and clicked on the downsize button, resized the height and width and had no problems.

You should have opened your own thread with this problem, as this one is for new features, not new problems.

So, I'll continue with new features:

HITFILM

There are many new effects that are quite interesting, and some that are similar to NewBlue effects, like the magnifying glass.

One thing to watch out for, and it goes along with the large quantity of parameters, is that with at least one, Animated Laser, there are a lot of parameters, and I scrolled down to the end of them and kept going to the bottom of the scroll bar. At the bottom, completely separate from the upper ones, was another series of parameters. Something to watch out for and to give feedback to Magix.

Neat effect, though, as is the Lightning Electricity.

There are some, like Radial Blur and Zoom Blur that may make for interesting transitions. And, it will be interesting to try out combinations. Here is the link to help with HitFilm plugins. Not a lot of information so one will have to try things, learn and take notes.

After installing latest update, my laptop hang's regulary during the creation of a DVD and the program always stops after completing the process. Must we pay 199 € to receive "non tested" updates?

browj2 wrote on 5/15/2017, 10:58 AM

I guess that that is a new undocumented feature?

Is your problem like this one currently being discussed?

Here is a feature that I did not notice before and may possibly be new.

Right-click on a video object, Video effects, and on the list is "Save color effects as lookup table."

Saving it creates a .cube file that will show up under Effectrs, Lookup Tables, Effect lookup tab.

Is this new or was it there before?
