VPX(8) Patch 15.0.3.138 released

browj2 wrote on 1/27/2017, 12:49 PM

There is a new patch available:

Changes in version
15.0.3.138:

  • * NEW: Chroma subsampling and bits per color channel display in movie export dialogs
  • * NEW: HEVC export with 10-bit color depth
  • * NEW: Adjustable chroma subsampling for ProRes
  • * NEW: BT.2020 color space support (readout)
  • * NEW: Panasonic GH5 support
  • * clear quality improvement for crossfades in exported movie (reduced aliasing)
  • * Improved frame rate recognition for MXF files
  • * Fixed error that caused effect masks to disappear in exported movie
  • * Prevents flickering of the mouse cursor above the preview monitor
  • * Fixed error in use of alpha channel (especially for fades and titles)
  • * Fixed export cancellation with MPEGLayer2 mono audio
  • * Fixed rare hang-ups for Blu-ray export
  • * Fixed problems reading AVC-Intra material
  • * Prevented program crashes caused by some graphics cards
  • * Fixed various errors that could lead to crashes

I haven't tested it much yet, but, annoyingly, they did not fix the TRA problem. There was a patch the other day for MEP2016 that did repair the TRA with it.

Also not fixed: problems with Object and Edit Trimmers, problems with the Project Temp Folder - both issues were raised with Magix.

Although there are new things indicated in the above list, Magix still has not added the new features that are with MEP2017.

This is the pro program for which we are supposed to have everything and everything should work. Nice to know that bugs are being fixed, but there are still too many to be fixed. Magix is letting us down and I will raise another ticket to let them know.

Any other bugs noticed? Any new bugs with this patch?

Hi,

I'd like to know whats your opinion here, does VPX8 worth it if you already have VPX6? other than the HEVC support (which for that I have MEP2016 premium) and OpenFX support I don't see much advantages over VPX6, in fact VPX6 have vectorscope, waveform monitor, histogram, RGB parade which I think VPX8 doesn't have (I don't see no one talking about these on youtube) plus I have one more question, as you may know Mercalli v4 came bundled with 2016 premium, can I use this plugin with in VPX8 as well? I have no problem using Titler EX in 3 different version of magix VPX6, MEP 2016 and 2015, to use Mercalli v4 other than in MEP 2016 they want me to unlock it, idk why.

I really like VPX6 its workflow is amazingly fast with my configuration i7 6700K, RX 480 4GB, 16GB DDR4 and W10 Pro 64bit, and tbh its interface look better than VPX8 in my opinion, but I know VPX8 is newer with some fancy features that I really don't care much about like 360 video editing etc I feel happy and confortable with VPX6, I don't see much difference when comparing both of them version, as I said If needed can alternate between VPX6 and MEP 2016 premium for things like HEVC and Mercalli v4, though I like using VPX6 more

I have recieved an upgrade offer to VPX8 from Magix for $199 with Video Essentials and HitFilm Cinema Style Pack included, now I ask you this, if it was you would you upgrade at that price, does it worth it?

And lastly what MEP2017 features are you refering to that VPX8 doesn't have yet? just curious, thanks

Hi,

I much prefer VPX8 over VPX6 and I would (and did) upgrade; but that is me. There have been many useful features added in both VPX7 and VPX8. One main one is the graph under Brightness/Contrast for using the curves to make adjustments. Another is Shot match. I don't have the list of features added in VPX7 and no comparison table, so I can't give you a detailed accounting.  Precise colour grading with 16 bit deep colour may be interesting to many. If you are happy with what you have, then there is probably no need to upgrade.

For me, Mercalli V4 came with VPX7, but at least one other user who did not purchase VPX7 reported that he received Mercalli V4 with VPX8. I did not, but it still works with VPX8. Those who upgraded from MEP2016 Premium to 2017 Premium found that Mercalli V4 did not work with 2017 and it had been replaced by Mercalli V2. I would not have been happy if V4 had not worked with VPX8. You should check with Magix to see if V4 comes with VPX8.

You would be getting a bonus that I did not get - the HitFilm cinema style pack. However, I was not overly impressed with what is there and I think that I already have tools that can do the same things better - some NB and Pixelan plugins.

New tools in MEP2017 not yet in VPX8:

  • Border effects - for portrait videos (those taken by people using cell phones improperly), replaces black borders with a blurry (editable) background image of the original video or photo
  • Mask generator
  • Gaussian blur and glow effects
  • Lens flare effects
  • Video stamps

Oh okay, I will conact Magix first to make sure Mercalli v4 is included, thanks for your reply and suggestions.

One more thing. The upgrade price looks like the normal one for upgrading from VPX6 or VPX7 to 8. VPX8 Is now under a 365 upgrade policy that you need to be aware of. I would wait until Magix releases the missing features, that way they are locked in at the time of purchase and if you don't renew after a year but then have to reinstall, they are still there. Any upgrades/new features that come out during the 365 days from purchase or renewal disappear if you don't renew AND then have to reinstall.

Oh! so that is how their 365 free updates policy work, they are locked in at the time of purchase, that's no good news for me, as I find myself reinstalling programs here and there and If I lose new features during the 365 days I will be really mad at Magix, well I think I'm gonna pass that offer and upgrade until I see a full feature list included in VPX8 hopefully in 2020 XD, thanks again for that clarification 👍👍
