I mentioned this quickly in another post, but after going through all of the buttons and counters for the Object Trimmer (does anyone use it?) the following is a listing of the bugs/errors that I found in VPX. I only found one main problem with this in MEP2016 Plus/Premium and I would like it and everything else checked by someone against MEP2017 Plus/Premium (which I don't have). I have raised a ticket with Magix for this. For me, the Object Trimmer in VPX is unusable as is. In MEP2016, it is passable.
In the image below, I have used the same numbering as in the manual for the most part (not all numbers are shown). Whoever takes care of this should be familiar with the manual and how the Object Editor is supposed to work. With one or two exceptions, the Object Editor in Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus/Premium works fine (noted in the text below), but in VPX8 (version 15.0.3.130),
it is a mess. I do not know what works and what does not in Movie Edit Pro 2017, so it should be checked as well. I will do up a video showing these problems.
Note, the Trimmer Editor also has some problems, but I have not gone through them rigourously.
For a start, the main image and the adjacent images have been trimmed at both the head and the tail; no transitions – each clip abuts the other.
Problem 1a, 1b
a - Before opening the editor using Shift+N, select the clip, place the playback marker at the head of this clip, Shift+N. The editor
opens but on the timeline the playback marker shifts and a range is drawn that seems to have nothing to do with the zone to be edited. Click on the right arrow (11), then the left arrow (10) and you will see that the ranges and playback marker locations are correctly shown.
b - Also, go out, come back in, make some modifications and click on the left playback button (12) “Plays rendered section.” You will see that the playback marker jumps to the correct location and the range is shown, but the range does not cover the entire clip with both the left and the right interfaces; it stops short of the right hand side. Try it with transitions.
Problem 2
Button 3 Object Content – using the left button works fine, but when trying to go back by using the right button, the most that it will do is 2 frames, even if 100 are available. It should work like the left button when there is material to work with, but it does not. (Works fine in MEP2016)
Problems 3a, 3b, 3c
Button 2 a - With no transition, clicking on the left arrow moves the object and changes the last frame of the object to
its left, that is, it should shorten it. Instead, it creates a cross-fade. Nothing shows up in the Fading in (4) counter. With a transition, opening the editor shows the cross-fade amount in the Fading in (4) counter, but moving the object to the left using the left arrow (2), even though it increases the transition length, nothing moves in the Fading in (4) counter.
b - Using the right arrow – with no transition, it works and pushes the subsequent objects to the right. With a
transition, it is supposed to increase the amount of the transition, but it does not, it still pushes the right hand objects to the right.
c – in all cases of existing transitions, moving the left or right arrows to increase/decrease the transition has no impact on the Fading in/Fading out counters. Accept a change and re-enter the editor and you will see that the Fading in/Fading out counters have changed to display the correct transition lengths (fade lengths).
Problem 4
Button 1 With no transition, clicking on the left arrow should move the beginning of the clip to the left (if there is
material available) and move the last frame of the left hand object to the left, that is, it should shorten the left object while increasing the length of the selected object. Instead, it creates a fade/transition. Also, since it creates a fade, the Fading in counter should change but does not.
Problem 5a, 5b, 5c
Button 6 a – With no transition, the left button changes the last frame of the selected object correctly by moving it to
the left, but the left end of the object to the right should extend to the left if material is available. It does not; instead, the adjacent right object moves to the left, opening up a gap at its right side. At the very least, all objects at the right should move to the left but they do not.
b – With no transition, the right button increases the length of the selected clip correctly, but the adjacent object to the right gets pushed along and creates a transition with the object to its right, instead of pushing all objects. (This is the only problem with the Object Trimmer that I found in MEP 2016 Plus) Or, using the right button should increase the length of the selected object and decrease the length of the right-hand object.
c – With transition – both left and right buttons work correctly by changing the transition length, but the Fading out counter does not change. Also, using the left button, once the interface of the two objects is reached, point of no transition, continuing on drags the right hand clip towards the left instead of moving its start point, increasing its length if possible, of if not possible, then opening up a gap at that location. Instead, a gap is opened at the next right hand object.
Problem 6
Button 5 Fading out (also fading in) – if a transition exists, then pressing on the left or right button changes the length
of the transition (fade) as seen on the timeline, but the numbers in the counter do not change. Accept the change and then go back in and you will see that the counter now shows the correct Fading in length.
Thanks,
