VPX 4 How to convert mono audio to Stereo

1940 wrote on 10/2/2014, 5:33 AM

Hi,

I have lots of Video clips on Track 1 and synced to that I have two audio tracks.

The first (Track 2) is in stereo and I have just noticed that the other (Track 3) is mono.

When I play it on speakers track 1 is out of both speakers whist track 3 the mono, is out of left only.

Without having to export the audio to my external audio prog and back again, is there a way I can do this please?

Thanks

Sorry, I have to say your question does not make much sense to me!  What, exactly, are you trying to do?

As I understand it, you have two audio tracks, one stereo (which plays, as expected, through both channels) and a second which is mono but plays only through the left speaker.  Is that correct?  If it is, then your second track is NOT mono (assuming you have not made any changes to the Pan control for that track on the mixer) but rather a "stereo" track which has somehow "lost" the right channel!  I say that because a truly "mono" audio track HAS to play through both speakers!  That's what mono is/means!

So, more details please of exactly what you want to do!

Hi

You can create a pseudo stereo effect as follows:-

  1. right click the audio track, select Audio Cleaning

  2. Select the tab indicated (1) in the image below

  3. Select the preset button (2)

  4. Select the appropriate option (3)

  5. Use the Balance control (4) to position the audio on the stereo sound stage

This works best where there is a single sound source eg microphone, guitar etc ie devices that are mono by nature

Thank you both very much for your time.

I like lateral thinking :-)

I went back toi where I did my extra Track 2 and 3 audio (Audition) and noticed that track two was stereo  but track 3 was just the left channel. The right chanel was blank as emmrecs implied.!

Not sure how this oversight happened howveer I was in a hurry at the time with a milion other things on my minds. Crazy !!

and that'sright.. mono default is middle.

Because it is cut so many times, I really don't want to have to export it out and in then re sync but maybe...

I still wish it all to come out of the middle.  Don't care about it actuall true stero, just all out of the centre.

Well I bit the bullet and..

grouped all the clips on Track 3,

exported them as mp3 audio

opened up new stereo project in audition with clip on 1 side
copied also to other side
saved stereo (both sides anyway) clip

dragged to new track 4 in VPX
muted track 3

Done !!  All in the centre..

Thanks guys
