VPX 365 Update Service - expiry and renewal

browj2 wrote on 4/26/2017, 10:32 AM

I just noticed that I purchased VPX on April 14 of last year, so the anniversary has rolled around and there is no message from Magix about renewal.

I understand that a new update is out in German, with English to follow. Hopefully it will contain a lot because there has been precious little in the way of new features issued over the last year. VPX does not even have the new features of MEP (2017) Plus which have been out for almost a year.

Has anyone had a message about renewal from Magix?

I also do not receive the Magix newsletter, although I have signed up for it several times and even had Magix support fix it. Has anyone received such a newsletter from Magix? Recently?

On my Surface Pro, the About screen shows 0 days remaining instead of the serial number. My desktop shows the serial number. I thought that this was an indication of the 365 day cycle, but then realized that there is still a bug in VPX. The 0 days refers to the trial and I had this before. Note that VPX is patched up to date and fully functional. I'll add this bug to the list.

Hi John

Has anyone had a message about renewal from Magix?

No but I would not expect to as the program should continue on in it's current version unless you try to reinstall it or add new patches which might trigger a message.

My anniversary is not until early June also.

Hi,

May be without paid a new subcription you have only one version continu to run without update. The other fact the new version update from Pinnacle version 20.5 is free for user version 20 that means difficult to charge without something new function to offer. Why to buy or pay is the new upgrade cannot offer more the present version.

Regards,

YR

Hi Yvon-Robert,

I think that you are right. The features that are in MEP2016 Plus but not in VPX are likely all that Magix has to offer. I did make some suggestions in my other thread, one of which costs Magix nothing: add the essentialFX VocalStrip. I guess that we will see in a few weeks what Magix has to offer.

As for Pinnacle v20.5, I am still on v18.5 as I could see no reason to upgrade. I only use it for things not available in VPX, or for some additional possibilities with effects, and for Scorefitter songs. The two new effects that Pinnacle mentioned looks interesting - split screen (not just simple ones) and create templates, however, the first one can be done easily with masks, and the second one is a gimmick. Pinnacle has not come out with any new content that I have seen or even a new Scorefitter volume - I have had all 3 for several years. Pinnacle has come out with new problems, however, in almost every release and doesn't fix some old ones. I'm waiting for either the price to drop further or some new interesting content to entice me to upgrade.

I just thought of another one that Magix could and should do - tie up with SonicFire Pro for a plugin. I have SonicFire and use it as a standalone. Soundtrack Maker in MEP/VPX, just does not do the same job as Sonicfire or even Scorefitter, where the song is adjusted to the length and ends properly, not just a fade out.

With programs like HitFilm coming out with new and exciting-looking features very often, it should be a wakeup call to the other video nle makers to sharpen their pencils and find new features if they want to keep theirs users interested in paying.

Hi

I suspect the renewal will pop up with the next major patch / upgrade ie the version, the previously major patch reported in the German forum appears to have disappeared.

OT . . . . Pinnacle . . .

That is a blast from the past - I dumped this software when they brought out (IIRC) version 8 or 10 and really screwed up the interface - would be about the time I changed to Vegas Pro.

Never did get their DVC 150 or the TV device to work with any other editor.

Hi,

Still OT about Pinnacle, I purchased the Roxio interface quite a while back when I got my new computer. The old one had an ATI All-in-Wonder card with cable and video inputs. It worked well until one of the Pinnacle updates installed the drivers for the Pinnacle device. Windows decided that it would use the Pinnacle drivers instead of Roxio and the interface no longer worked. I resolved this by installing the Roxio program on my wife's laptop and now my Surface Pro. Like you, I could not get the interface to work properly with Magix MEP.

Also, I started with Pinnacle 8, I believe. I still have the box for 9. A green screen cloth came with it and it disappeared, unused, over the years. I gave up on Pinnacle when it looked like Avid was abandoning it and moved to Magix. I had been using Magix ACL and received a special offer on an upgrade that included MEP. I started using MEP and stayed with it. Still, I upgraded to Pinnacle 17, 18 and stopped at 18.6.

About renewal, the first one that I have seen come up is for Xara Web Designer. One of the Moderators received a renewal notice with a price of about 40% of retail, and renewed. He noted that the date of renewal that showed up was more than a month earlier or something, so there was some confusion.

For Magix, I think that the first program to have a renewal date was MusicMaker, but I had purchased it much later, in June, so I have not seen anything on this. Have you heard or seen anything about it? As this is the first go-round, I expect that Magix is having some teething problems.

I received an answer from Magix yesterday, just noticed it today in my spam box, that a new update of Video Pro X (15.0.4.156) will be available very soon and will contain new features as well as user interface and workflow improvements.

A user in the French part of the forum indicated that he received the new update of VPX with a one-year renewal, including:

  • Hitfilm
  • NB essentials 3 and 4

I have not received anything so I checked the Magix.com site and it is there with an upgrade button and full details.

John,

If you look in the News section of the forum you will see Mathias officially announcing the release... But you will also see my post about being unable to access the update. If it is a paid upgrade I sincerely hope the stated $399 is "not correct".

Jeff

EDIT: I really do need to look more carefully before posting. I've just noticed the "Upgrade" button!!

After purchasing the upgrade, the email contains only the 3 add-ons. You have to go back into VPX, Help, Update online, and the program update box should now appear.

Changes in version 15.0.4.163:

* NEW: 10 additional video effects
* NEW: Save color effects as lookup tables (LUT) (via context menu)
* NEW: Load camera LUTs via the Properties dialog
* NEW: Send Anywhere support
* NEW: 360° import/editing/export
* NEW: 360° real time stitching
* NEW: Color space can be set up during export
* NEW: Deep color support for OpenFX plugins
* More intuitive workflow for LUTs (e.g. new entry "Effects->Lookup tables", can be used with
drag & drop)
* Improved object properties dialog
* Optimized preview for deep color material/effects
* Improved playback performance
        - Intelligent resolution reduction
       - Simplified effect fades
       - More effects optimized for calculation on graphics card
* Numerous fixes in different areas e.g. import, editing material with Alpha, images, dissolves,

Here is the Effects screen with the first two expanded:

So far, so good.

Here are the NB Essentials that were added:

But, all is not perfect. There is a new icon for VPX and it's purple and looks very much like the Xara icon. Now I will have to look more carefully in my tray before starting either.

Finally, like others, I can't figure out how to get the HitFilm packs to work. There is no OFX in the help manuals. I added the path

C:\Program Files\FXHOME

to the plugins manager. Did a scan, restarted. Next is reboot.
