VPX 14 + Windows 8.1?

Scott-Maas wrote on 5/26/2022, 11:26 AM

If I am right, we get 2 device authorization with VPX 14...? I have another computer that is running Windows 8.1 that I wouldn't mind putting VPX14 on. The "Specs" page for VPX14 looks like it says Win 10/11, so I'm guessing it wouldn't likely work? I know I had VPX 12 running on it at one time, but I thought VPX13+ had made changes that don't work with earlier versions of Windows.

So would VPX14 work in Windows 8.1 if the system specs were enough?

Hi Scott.

Never say never but it probably wouldn't work well.

Although it doesn't state it I suspect VPX 14 is using Direct X 12 and some of that functionality is missing from Direct X 11.2

I say that because all of the stated support hardware can run Direct X 12.1

Windows 8.1 is stuck with using Direct X 11.2.

You could try it but don't expect good results.

Hi

. . . . So would VPX14 work in Windows 8.1 if the system specs were enough? . . .

I am with @CubeAce on this and would add that the playback and exporting performance you get will be poor compared to Windows 10 or 11 which support DirectX 12 fully.

If the computer spec has a 6th generation or later Intel processor with a HD 620 or better integrated GPU, and/or a Nvidia GTX 1050ti or better, one option would be to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10

I haven’t attempted to launch VPX on my second computer since I upgraded my main computer to VPX 14. Since the second was running VPX 12, will it now lose it’s activation since it was using the 2nd VPX12 activation? (I would rather keep win 8.1 and use vpx12 on the second machine)

Hi.

I have only ever used one machine to edit on so I don't actually know but my guess would be that VPX 12 should remain active and usable but you will keep getting reminders to update your software which you should ignore.

I know others have got in contact with Magix explaining their problem and asking Magix to just allow them to roll back their current purchase until their machines can be upgraded. That seems to get a better response from Magix rather than asking for a refund as that is not something they will normally comply with. Then you may find that in your account you have two versions sitting there. One active (VPX 12) and the other unused. They will ask you to deactivate and uninstall your copy of VPX 14 first. (If they agree) then you can have VPX 12 back on both machines until you are ready to upgrade your machine. You will lose any of the current effects that came with your purchase of VPX 14 but retain the ones you had with VPX 12.

The above is just a suggestion. I have always been polite with my communication with Magix and in the past and found them to be reasonable with reasonable requests.

Ray.
