What are you trying to Edit?

I am assuming you have imported or loaded the video into the program, and it displays in the timeline and for editing you can cut, clean using the different effects for color, brightness, contrast and so forth. These effects are real time effects and if you just save then you are only saving the project; not writing the information to the video. You would need to export this project to have a new file written with the 'edits' being part of the video.

I am unsure if that fits to what you have asked, it is the best I could think of to the question.
