Video X3 choppy, jittery, stuttery (i.e. not smooth) rendering?

I have been happily running video X3 for years with no problems until recently and now I can’t render a video of more than about 10 minutes without it rendering choppy, jittery, stuttery (i.e. not smooth). Less than 10 minutes will render perfect. The hardware has not changed. The only thing that has changed are drivers. I was sure that all was working well in Windows 10 but just to be absolutely sure I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 but the problem was still there!
I bought PowerDirector 14 which runs and renders perfect but I just don’t like it compared to X3 so can someone help please?

No absolutely sure-fire suggestions to offer (!), but:

  • What is the format of the video files you are using?  Are they different to what you have used before?
  • Is the Hard Drive where your video files are stored devloping some sort of fault, such that data is not streamed continuously without interruption?  (Seems unlikely, given that exports using PD14 apparently do not suffer this problem.)
  • Could your computer be over-heating?
  • In what format are you exporting?  To DVD?  Disc Image?  File?  Have you checked this problem using a different export format?

You imply that you recently upgraded to Win 10 but have now reinstalled Win 7.  I wonder whether, despite the reformat of your OS drive, something from Win 10 is still present?  As a matter of interest, when you originally upgraded, did you reinstall VPX?  There are several threads in the forum if you search that mention problems following the change of OS where only a complete reinstall of MAGIX products has resolved those problems.

Thanks so much for your answer. The video formats are just the same; mpeg2 from my Sony HVR-V1 and mpeg2 from a satellite recorder. Rendering a final mpeg 2 1440x1080 from the camcorder works fine but the problem started to occur in the process of rendering to mpeg4 from both sources, and it makes no difference what size of output (resolution, bit rate). This all worked fine before.

I have two hard drives in the PC and it's the same no matter which one i write to. The computer is not overheating, I can tell when it's running hot because the fan starts to noisily speed up but no such problems here, it just runs quiet.

I did the initial upgrade to windows 10 and then a little later i did a reformat and clean install of windows 10, so here and the subsequent reformat and reinstallation of windows 7 required me to reinstall Video Pro X3.

I do have a couple of other issues with VPX in windows 10 such as not seeing my camcorder or either of my DVD or Bluray burners. All else in windows 10 is working beautifully as does PowerDirector 14.

In the meantime, I have been getting used to PowerDirector and impressed with all it's features, it's certainly doing all I need it to do, so I'm thinking that whilst I have been a fan of my VPX3 for years, it's maybe time to bite the bullet and move on...

Many Thanks,

Vince
