Video Pro X6 and Movie Edit Pro 2015

gmlotkow wrote on 9/12/2014, 5:43 PM

So I have been using Video Pro X6 for quite awhile, and today I received and downloaded the new version of Movie Edit Pro 2015.  I did so because of the new effects, Red Giant Knoll Light Factory.

Did I make a mistake about this download?  Initally Red Giant does not install, and the level 2015 does not seem to add much.  I love X6, but is 2015 setting me back?

Will the Red Giant Plug-ins from 2015 work with X6?

UPDATE-

Indeed X6 allows the use of the plug-ins from 2015.  I will update as to what I find out next.

Hi Greg,

If you received the same message as I did, then it was for Plus, not Premium. The Red Giant plugins are only in the Premium version. If you paid for it, ask for a refund and for a good price on Premium. I'm waiting for that one. Let me know what they say. Plus is not worth 60$ in my opinion. I already have the other "freebies."

it was the 2015 premium.  $79.99 instead of 209.97

Your link just takes me to the regular Magix site (Canadian and American are the same). There is no mention of the original price, only the 129.99$ for Premium,  99.99$ for Plus, and 49.99$ regularly 149.99$ for the Basic.

I received a 59.99$ offer for Plus, regularly 179.97$, including Music Maker Special Edition and Sound Archive 8. This is probably because I have Plus and not Premium.

I already have RG Knoll Light Factory in Pinnacle, along with Trapcode Particular and Trapcode Shine and Warp, plus the RG Filmmaker Toolkit of Cosmo, Looks and Mojo, and I rarely use them. I probably would if I had them with X6.

With X6 we have RG Magic Bullet Quicklooks, proDad Mercalli and Heroglyph LE, plus I have the full suite of Pixelan except for the latest ones (which I will probably buy), so I'm pretty much saturated with effects.

I will have to decide if NewBlue and the 3 RG plugins are worth 80 to 130$ to me. I would at least like to know that they work with X6.

Does the NewBlue Titler work with X6?

I just discovered Xara3D7 in the titles, to add even more to the suite of effects. Great 3D animations. I saw it before but it didn't register in my mind for some reason.

I await your review of the RG plugins using X6.

I've been staying away from Pinnacle.  It is too slow compared to Magix.  I think the 64 bit application of Magix really shines.  Indeed NewBlue Titler EX works in X6, so does the Red Giant Knoll Light Factory, and the Chromatic Glow.

I never used the movie templates before, experimenting with them, they seem difficult to work with in X6.  I paid $79 for the Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Premium.  I added the CD backup. Comes with the Video & Slideshow Sound Srchive 8 too.

I just may have to alternate between Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Premium & X6.

What is in 2015 that you can't do in X6?

For the Movie Templates, I really don't like them, except for using the intro or outro part of the template sometimes. Too limiting. I made one holiday movie where my intro included the outro, quite short, and then I did what I wanted, a very long video.

In case you didn't know, X6 only has a half-dozen Movie Templates, but it has all of the ones in MEP2014 in the ini file and it has the jpg icons to go with them. They are just missing from the folder. I copied the following from MEP to X6 folder C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Video Pro X6\MovieTemplates:

  • 2013_common_presentation.mis
  • 2013_jungle.mis
  • action.mis
  • adventure.mis
  • bestfriends.mis
  • blockbuster.mis
  • buddymovie.mis
  • documentation.mis
  • drama.mis
  • filmnoir.mis
  • flowerpower.mis
  • lovestory.mis
  • mysterious.mis
  • pet.mis
  • silentmovie.mis
  • sportsnews.mis
  • spystory.mis
  • thehacker.mis
  • vacation.mis
  • winterwonderland.mis

They all show up and work in X6.

The same can be done with other effects that may be missing from X6. Compare what you have with 2015 and X6 and then go and copy over anything that you want. Just look at the structure (ini file) to make sure it is doable. I have added some into the ini files myself by copying the text from MEP to X6. Document carefully anything that you do so that you can go back.

Note that dragging in a Movie Template changes X6 to Basic mode. This facilitates dragging clips onto the placeholders. To see everything, go to Window, Edit mode, Standard mode. Then you can see how they are put together and change them around. Of course it messes up the template, especially the music.

Do you have access to m4v files? If so, can you check in 2015 to see if you have this problem?

Yes I have access to .m4v files, only the ones that are not in the itunes directory.  I believe those are protected.

Were you able to import a .m4v onto the timeline in MEP2015?
