Video Pro X4 stopped working

jdloudon wrote on 5/16/2013, 9:12 AM

Thats it! It used to run perfectly on this system, As did ProX3 and 2 before it. No hardware changes on the system, nothing happened apart from usual Windows updates.

When I try to start it a Windows error box pops up with that error. Tried to reinstall - do dice. Also tried to install trial of Pro X5 and that will not start either.

Premiere Elements 11 works though, so nothing wrong with the video subsystem of my PC I reckon.

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Asus GTX260

Cheers

James

Hi James,

Since the Adobe product runs I would not look at the video processing aspects of the system but it is clearly OS related.

You mention that "Windows pops up with that error"  What exactly does that error say, including any reference numbers at the bottom of the error.

Typically applications stop working because of a corrupt registry file, a fragmented registry, corrupt system or application files, seriously fragmented hard drive, etc.

Without more detail, it is hard to get more specific than this.

Hi

Try resetting the software using the following procedure

1.   Using Windows Explorer search your C: drive for Video_Pro_X.ini - you will find several copies of it on your computer.

2.   The one you want will be the largest filesize - delete or rename it.

3.   Start VPX - hopefully this will fix the problem.

Thanks John

That does not work. Thanks for suggestion though.

Hi James,

If John's suggestion to delete videodeluxe.ini doesn't work then I reckon I'd try a system restore and further restores if necessary.

Then probably a reinstall.

Hi James,

And the System Restores didn't solve it?

Try the System File Checker. In XP I do this via Run > sfc / scannow but in Windows 7 I expect it's slightly different.

I expect Magix Technical Support will get back to you shortly.

Magix support got back to me and said they had had seen a couple of similar problems that related to the nVidia 200 series cards, and mine was a GTX260 - and a recent driver update. I got hold of a used GTX560 and have just bunged that in and all is working again - yay!

So my son is ahppy too because he now has the old GTX260 which is better than what he had.

Thanks all
