video pro crashes during export of multiple photos

darthdiver12 wrote on 5/17/2017, 7:48 AM

after the last update every time I try to export my photos into a timelapse it crashes. I have tried multiple files and all of them crash. Some of which exported with no issues the day before the update. I am trying to export 412 photos into a 13 second video in mp4 format. I am using windows 10 with an i7.

Hi

I wonder whether this is connected in any way with the problems others of us are reporting about the DVD Burning screen not being dismiss-able following a successful export?

Given the number of images you are using I think this may be somewhat problematic for other users to reproduce so can I suggest you initially reduce the number of images by, say, a half, and test the export again. If the export works, add, say, half of the remainder and test again, and so on until whatever maximum is reached.

If that initial test export fails, reduce the number of pictures on the timeline by, say, a half again. Test. Continue like this until you have a better idea of whether it is the sheer quantity of images you are using or whether the problem occurs irrespective of how many pictures.

Also, which mp4 export template did you use? Have you tested the export with a different template or different settings?

Once you have a clearly repeatable formula to guarantee the failed export, post back with the full details and I, and I'm sure other users, will test it on their systems (assuming we all have enough images available to use!).

Hi @darthdiver12 and @browj2

So I decided to test something similar on my machine. I simply put some 343 quite random images on the timeline, adjusted the length of each to 1 frame (to give something approximating what the OP must be attempting, given the number of images and total playing time), giving me a total playing time of 13 seconds 2 frames. I then exported to mp4, using the "FullHD 1920 x 1080 25p" template and the export ran fully and produced the required mp4.

@browj2 ref your linked thread, I have HWA on for mp4, using the Default codec. I have the MC codec but have not recently tested something like this scenario with it.

Ref a point @terrypin made; yes the formatting of posts to the forum does seem to have gone somewhat awry. It looks as if Full Left and Right Justification is on but without changing the spacing between words, just creating bizarre word splits.

EDIT: I have messaged @MAGIX_Redaktion to ask about the formatting problems!

Hi

@ Darthdiver12

I have tested this with 440 images and export OK using both the Intel HD codec with Hardware Acceleration (HWA) and MainConcept codec without HWA.

. . . . I have HWA on for mp4, using the Default codec. I have the MC codec but have not recently tested something like this scenario with it. . . .

@ Jeff

The Intel HD codecs are OK with HWA, When I posted this answer I had not tried the MC codec with the latest Intel drivers, however as John CB, thanks for the heads up John, has reported the MC codec + HWA causes issues, and I now get this too.

I suspect that the MC codec's age is catching up on it, it used to work with older Intel drivers but not the latest versions.

@johnebaker I am not sure what you post meant about the mc codecs age is catching up to it.

Magix support told me to reset all settings in the program so thats what I did and still had no luck.

@emmrecs I tried to lower the amount of pictures and no luck still. the Video I did the day before was 1012 pictures and had no issues. If I cant fix this soon I am going to have to ditch this program and really do not want to do that.

Hi,

You can add a second (third, fourth, etc.) project to the open one if you want, and have it open as a new Movie within that project. Usually, I say no, because my projects are distinct. However, sometimes, I might create a new project, work on it, then decide to combine it as a movie in another project. Take for example my tutorials using Seasons. I could create projects called Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall, then decide to combine them into one project so that I could create a DVD with the different seasons as Movies. So I would open the first one, Winter, save it with a new name as Seasons, open Spring, accept to import it but as a new movie, open Summer...., then Fall. Then I would have a project called Seasons with 4 Movies (look at the tabs in my tutorials) for each season. You should watch my 3 tutorials if you haven't yet done so.

Does this help?

The others will explain about the setting for MC etc., later.

Hi @darthdiver12

Can you give us some detail on the crashing please:-

Does it give an error message and if so what does it say?

Or:- does the program just stop responding?

All:-

I do not think this is a HWA issue and I have never seen a crash caused by trying to export with HWA enabled - Error messages - Yes!

As I have stated in previous posts the MainConcept encoder works fine with Intel Quicksync (with me and other forum members) providing you have a functioning / enabled Intel iGPU, and you select Quicksync in the MC MPEG4 Export >Advanced Settings>Advanced Video Settings>Encoder >drop down (at the top). After selecting this, if you can not see Quicksync in the main MPEG-4 export window in the Format Description box, it will likely fail. @emmrecs maybe you could just try an ordinary HWA export of some MPEG4 video to demonstrate this is possible for others.

@johnebaker

.I suspect that the MC codec's age is catching up on it, it used to work with older Intel drivers but not the latest versions.

Which driver versions are you referring to?

What are the problems you are now having too? Is it just the problem you have had with the exported file having zero data, or something new?

Hi.

Thanks for this updated info.

Unfortunately, you have posted an image of the beginning of your Crash Log; hence much of it is missing! Can you please copy and paste ALL of it in your next reply.

However, looking at the error message in your first attachment (and in the part of the error log) I see the fault is in "KERNELBASE.dll". I'm certain that is a Windows system file. So, I think a check of your Windows installation may be needed.

I think you should run the system file checker. To do this right click on the Windows start icon and from theoptions given, choose "Command Prompt (Admin)". In the screen that then opens type sfc /scannow (notice the space between sfc and the forward slash). This will take some time to complete but will eventually report on what it has found.

Post back with any results that the screen shows.

Hi again.

Thanks for all this latest information, sorry you seem able to proceed no further. I fear that I, at least, am running out of possible ideas!

I did a very quick Google search on the error codes and came up with various pages, none of which made a lot of sense to me nor did what I could understand seem even vaguely relevant to your problem.

This Magix support page https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/faq/what-can-i-do-when-i-have-burning-problems may contain something that will assist you.

But I think you really now need to open a support ticket at http://support.magix.com

Just a thought: I wonder whether what you are seeing is another facet of the problem several of us have seen, albeit, for us, much later in the burning process? It's detailed at https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/update-15-0-4-164-udc2-loss-of-function--1190693/

Hi

@ Peter

I suspect that the MC codec's age is catching up on it, it used to work with older Intel drivers but not the latest versions.

Which driver versions are you referring to?

I am currently running the 20. series Intel drivers, the old drivers I am referring to were the 15. series.

BTW the Intel 21. series are not compatible with my HD4600.

@darthdiver12

I am not sure what you post meant about the mc codecs age is catching up to it

I am referring to the MainConcept codecs, however you image above indicates that you are using the Default (Intel HD codecs).

As you are using the Default codecs and to avoid introducing a possible red herring in this issue leave the Program settings, Import/Export codecs set to Default.

What is your computer specification in particular processor make and model, RAM quantity, the graphics card / chipset being used and hard drive configuration andthe amount of free disc space?

Yesterday I purchased and installed Vegas Pro 14. After editing, saving and then clicking to close the program I experienced a computer crash. No messages, just a black screen with the mouse pointer flickering. This happened again today, exactly the same problem. I never had this experiencing with Pro 13. I had to force the computer to shut down by turning off the power and then to restart. Not the best way to turn off a computer. I hope I did not waste a lot money by upgrading to Pro 14.

Trying to contact Magix is an exercise in frustration. Whatever I tried I was never able to contact "Support".

Oh, how I miss my DPS Reality/Velocity. The best system ever on the market.

Hi

I agree with @emmrecs that this appears to be a Windows related problem and could well relate to a recent Windows update. My google search of that .dll mainly found fixes relating to removing Microsoft KB updates that were crashing other Video Editing programs. Often it is updates that do not install properly or Windows automatically updated drivers that may not be suitable for your hardware.

However best thing is to go through the steps in this Magix support topic: https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/faq/troubleshooting-crashing-0 Even though it appears to be relevant to Vegas most of it is relevant to VPX/MEP.

The - "Uninstall/reinstall or Repair all versions of Microsoft Visual C++ and Microsoft .NET Framework" part is worth doing as I have seen this advice from other members with computer experience in other forums.
