Video Monitor stays frozen when the play marker is moving along the storyboard or timeline mode.

"When I click onto the play button to preview my slideshow in the video monitor it stays frozen on the same picture even when the play marker is moving along the storyboard or timeline mode through different pictures. Sometimes there is just a black screen on the display monitor when the play curser is moving along the slideshow strip below.

I have PhotoStory on CD & DVD 10 Deluxe.  My operating system is Windows 7.  My processor is Pentium (R) Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.50GHz.  Ram is at 2.50GB.  32 Bit operating system.  Graphics card is Radeon x300/x550/x1050 series (Microsoft).

I had success with this software for quite some time now using it with XP.  Recently I upgraded my system to Windows 7,  the software operated fine for roughly a month until I added a mp4 video file from my IPad which was made with iMovie.  I do have Apple's Quicktime on my desktop which is where I use my PhotoShow software. I did purchase the Codec to make video slideshows to play on mobile devices such as tablets, phones and video picture frames. Why is this happening?  The current 10 Deluxe says that it is compatible with Windows 7.  Can anyone advise me on what I need to do?  Is 10 Deluxe so outdated that I have to purchase Magix's latest version?

Thanks

Hi

Was the video file format a 720p MP4 ie 1280*720 resolution?

If so, then your computer does not have enough memory and power to run with a HD video file.  Adding more memory will not solve the issue because you have the 32 bit version of Windows 7 which will only recognise approx 3 GB.

In this case the only solution is a new computer which will come with Windows 10 which may mean you need the latest version of Photostory as well to ensure total compatability.

Thanks John,

My video MP4 files are 1280*720 resolution.  I can see the issue regarding the 32 Bit system with the MP4 files and guess that I need a 64 Bit system.  But what I am puzzled about is that certain slideshows that I am trying to create are just jpeg files with no MP4 videos in them and I get the same frozen video monitor or black screen.

Since I never had this issue before I downloaded the video MP4 files, do you think that if I do a system restore or uninstall and download the Deluxe 10 back onto my computer that the issue would disappear if I do not download any MP4 files and stick with jpegs for future shows?

Hi

The MP4 files are HD video which require a lot of processing power to play from the timeline.

The freezing with just jpg's though is another problem.

Has anything changed recently on the computer? Eg new programs installed, Antivirus changed etc.

When did you install iTunes?

What is the final destination of the slideshow/video?

If you are producing DVD's only then you could reduce the resolution of the video down to the DVD standard for your location  ie 720 * 576 for PAL or 720 * 480 for NTSC.

. . . . do you think that if I do a system restore . . . .

A system restore back to a datebefore the issue started should only be done providing nothing has changed on the computer in between the two dates, otherwise you may render any new software or updates unusable/ ineffective.

. . . . . uninstall and download the Deluxe 10 back onto my computer that the issue would disappear . . . .

I do not think this would fix the issue.  Something has changed on the computer.  However you could try resetting the program back to its default settings - File, Reset Program Settings to Default...
