USB interface - no left signal

Bsharpe89 wrote on 5/19/2011, 11:46 AM

Using a Lexicon Alpha recording interface.  I have a mic going into to the XLR input on the back of the device and connected to my computer by USB.  When I record, I only get signal from the right side.  I have tried changing it from stereo to mono in the "Audio Recording" window, but still yield the same results.  The sound is great from the right speaker, just nothing in the eft.

I called Lexicon and they said there is a setting that needs to be changed but couldn't really help me out because the interface comes with Cubase and they didn't have any knowledge of MMM.

Hi,

MMM cannot record in real MONO.

"A real problem of MMM : it is impossible to select only a mono mic (line 3 by ex.). This is not the case with Audacity or LIVE or with the other DAW. Generaly I use AUDACITY and now Live to record. After I mix in MMM. MMM divides by 2 the signal level (L + R)/2. If I want I can record with 2 mics in stereo. If you have only one mic, which is generaly the case, you get L/2. With the other DAW or Audacity you get the full level signal (confirmed by another French man)."

Have a look to http://www.magix.info/fr/why-are-recorded-tracks-bleeding-onto-other-tracks-in.knowledge.403048.html

So I found a slightly inconvenient but efficient work around. If anyone else is having this issue, here is what you can do to fix it.

Record your track

Highlight the take and hit alt-k (or right click and select "convert stereo into two mono objects")

The track should then duplicate.  One of the duplications will be no sound at all and the other will be the track you just recorded coming through both speakers.

Delete the blank one and enjoy your take.

Hi,

OK it works, but there is always the same problem, the level of the signal is lower than a real MONO recording with the same tuning in AUDACITY or an other DAW.

You can also select the MONO option in the "advanced" submenu of item 3 in the recording menu... with the same issue.
