How can I upgrade to premium? I purchased Music Maker 15. I cannot identify my sound card and video card. I do not know how to qualify for the discount where the customer pays the difference between premium and regular when buying the upgrade.
There is no indication of a discount on the upgrade on the MAGIX website. Are we to assume you've received an email informing you of this discount? If so, does it provide you with any other relevant information or instructions?
Do you own the box or download version?
I believe one would normally go to the HELP menu > Update program / Upgrade functions > Online Update...
I believe you will have the option to upgrade, and I assume any relevant discounts will be applied at that time. You will pay the upgrade fee and you will be supplied an activation code. Go back to the HELP menu and there should be a place to enter the code. Type it in...do not copy/paste.
It should change the title to "MM15 Premium version". If not, it's possible it hasn't activated properly. You need to be connected to the internet when activating as it downloads a small file. Install content pack 1 by double clicking the file. It should install automatically and it can take about 5 minutes to install. Restart MM15. In the splash screen that pops up, click on "Download Soundpackets". You'll be taken to a webpage where all 4 content packs are available to download. They are big files. Download them but make sure you install them "in order" from 1-4.
On a PC with Windows XP, there are two ways to find the system information.
One place is in the Device Manager. Go to the Start menu if you don't have the My Computer icon on your desktop.
(Start) My Computer (right click) > System Properties (dialog box) > Hardware (tab) > Device Manager >
You will find your video card info here...Display Adapters
You will find your sound card info here...Sound, video and game controllers
Right-click and choose Properties for more information

The second method is to go to System Information...
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information >
System Summary (Processor/CPU, Total Physical Memory/RAM)
Components > Sound Device
Note sound card make and model, Driver Version
Components > Display
Note video card make and model, (Video) Adapter RAM, Driver Version

It's always a good idea to make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers installed for your video and sound cards. Especially if they are a few years old or older. The latest drivers can usually be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. Make sure you download the correct driver for your video/sound cards, your operating system (Windows version), and the bit rate of your computer (32 bit for an older model, 64 bit for some newer models).
