Unable to upload to Godaddy

Carter-jones wrote on 7/26/2020, 12:06 PM

I updated my website using version 17. Version 16 was used to create original site. Made only a few cursory updates and now my site will not upload to my GoDaddy hosting account. I tried with several different sites and it gets to about 88% complete then times out. I am unable to figure out what happened between versions. Did Xara change file structure or how it saves the html files? It uploaded to the Xara hosting ok which I find odd.

Hi

AFAIK there is no difference between the versions of Web Designer with respect to the FTP function of the program, this may be a GoDaddy issue limiting connection time or space limits are being exceeded.

You may want to try what I do - I do not use the inbuilt FTP function, preferring to Export, not Publish, the website to a folder on the PC, check the site works as expected from that folder (bonus!), and then use FileZilla to upload the entire contents of the folder to the host.

Just tried this and noticed that there is no index.html file being created in the export. Have you ever seen that?

Hi

In the Page & Layer Gallery right click the home page (page 1) and select Web properties as shown below

The page name should be as shown below - if it is not index then change it to index and export again.

Hello John,

I did have that index file but what I did notice was that when I create the export file I was not thinking that when I name it something, it was changing the actual index name. So all of your having me check things helped me figured that out. I want to truly thank you for taking the time to answer and offer suggestions. I don't think I will be using the web FTP client to upload. I will use the export method as you suggest. Its actually faster!!
