Hi

Did the camera come with software for importing / converting the XAVC files?

If so then use this to import / convert the video to AVCHD or MP4 if possible.

If there is no software with the camera there are several converters available on the Internet.

I see from the camera specifications that it is 4K ready, however it does not appear to record 4K.

1920x1080 is the highest stated recording resolution - if this is the case then I would suggest you change the recording format to AVCHD which MEP does import directly.  I realise that this does not solve the issue with currently recorded video.

Hi

Movie edit pro 2015 supports XAVC import (and export I believe...) and I wonder if you installed that on your computer whether you would have access to the codec from ProX??

A camera that is 4K ready......what is that about?? When does it become capable?

Hi S.s

Yes, Movie Edit Pro does have this import facility but I'm using Pro X6 and do not have  Edit Pro, In addition I pretty sure that it with import XAV c not XAVC hd! What it does show to me that Magix are on the ball as the Sony FDR-AX100 (high end consumer handycam) was released May/June). No doubt Magix will sort this soon.

I would like to make this interestiing observation. Whilst many professional videographers were wringing their hands about importing AVCHD files into a well known expensive video editor,I had no problems importing AVCHD into my Magix Pro X3! IncidentlyI operate non-commercially.

Regarding 4K ready, In this case the Sony PXW-X70 has all the hardware for 4K but requires a firmware update to enable 4K. Originally, Sony announced that the up-grade firmware would be available in early 2015 at an unknown cost,. The latest information from a reliable source indicates that the firmware is to be made available this coming October.

Many thanks

Jane

Hi Jane

I pretty sure that it with import XAV c not XAVC hd!  Yes, XAVCS which is an MP4 wrapper. It seems there are many forms of XAVC which is why Sony developed the format - to cover as many bit rates, GOPs and bit depths as possible up to 4K res. XAVC HD, if I am not mistaken, uses an MXF wrapper which is probably why it may not supported in MEP.

Actually I think MEP2014 could export 4K just by increasing the resn. in the MP4 export template.

Hello there

it could be an easy workflow to convert the xavc to prores mov for editing in fcp there.

cause: FCP cannot decode the XAVC files until now.

we can find a third-party xavc to fcp converter  to work the job well , pavtube video converter for mac is highly recommend to have a try!

good luck
