Unable to fully edit Music Maker 2014 projects in Samplitude Music Studio 2014

Projects created in Music Maker 2014 cannot be fully edited in Samplitude Music Studio 2014.

Track objects appear locked even though they are not and can only be moved around or copied. The handles for volume fade in/out and re sizing cannot be accessed. I have tried Alt key to unlock objects but it makes no difference..

Also several objects are visible in the track but are greyed out even though another identical object next to it on the same track plays ok.

If I build a new track in Samplitude then the edit function works fine and I can resize and adjust volume using handles etc.. Anything imported from Music Maker does not have edit functions.

Windows 8.1 on PC with 8gb RAM and I7 quad core processor.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi

Check that the objects used on the tracks,  eg soundpool objects, synthesizers etc, also exist in Samplitude.

If they don't then they may appear on the timeline but be locked/non-editable.

Hi John -  thanks for the reply

I checked soundpools are in both Samplitude and Music Maker and they are not exactly the same - however the affected objects in my problem projects are in both.

Also did a quick project in MM using a soundpool I have not used before checking that all objects were in Samplitude and MM. Opened in Samplitude and the same problem is happening - editting is limited to simply moving about or copying. I built the same test project in a new Samplitude project and all objects can be fully edited.

Hi

This looks like an incompatability issue - when you imported the MM project into Samplitude, did you get a message box asking to convert/upgrade the project or see a message saying conversion/update was in progress while loading?

Hi John

no messages like that - it just says loading VIP project and then it opens the project. Nothing about converting files.

Just wondering how there can be a compatibility issue as MM2014 & Music Studio 2 came as a bundled package?

With any bundled anything, never assume everything works together seemlessly.  MM2014 and Musicstudio2 ore two sepaarate programs....granted there is some commonality between the two,,and I like you , would assume this should be a non-issue, so I m surprised that t is....that being said, what is it ou want Musicstudio to do for what MM2014 can't ?  If you can't figure out what the issue is  , I suggest you record a simple single track iin MM2014 and then export it down to Musicstudio and see if it works.....if it does not, at least you have a simple problem to solve.  If it does work for you, complex it  up a bit and see if it fails....get my drift ?
