1.  No it's not a true DAW so MIDI controllers will not work - only MIDI instruments.

2. Your M-Audio will not work as a MIDI controller because you can't use them with Music Maker. You can however use your M-Audio as a standard MIDI keyboard but that would be pointless - you could have just bought a cheap Yamaha for that.

For others reading this a MIDI controller is a device with faders and dials that can control the functions in a true DAW software. Things like volume and mixer track faders can be controlled by the hardware. M-Audio Oxygen is a MDI controller with faders and dials - Music Maker is entertainment software that will not work with it.

Thanks for clarifying that for us, NT!  That is an important distinction I was not yet aware of.  Now I am.
My previous misleading response has been deleted.

Still, a MIDI controller is handy to have on-hand for use with other MIDI hardware and software.  Unfortunately, the Oxygen 61 is USB only.

She didn't say if she has purchased MMM already, or not.  If she has, she can always sell it (or return it, if it hasn't been opened) and get some real DAW software.  Do you have any suggestions?

I'm a Pro Tools user and I highly recommend it. I've used many programs and nothing beats Pro Tools - that's why it's the industry standard that studios use.
