I have a new PC with Music Maker 16 Prem installed on the old computer. I want to transfer it and all related files to the new computer. Can someone point me in the right direction for instructions on how to do this? Many thanks!
It should be relatively straightforward depending on how organized you are in the first place.
If you don't already have your projects saved in a known, centralized location, you need to locate them and save them to a separate folder somewhere on your hard drive as a back-up. You will copy all of these files over to the new computer. Each project should consist of a named file with the extensions: .mmm, .HDP, and .H0. For example: Project2.mmm, Project2.HDP, and Project2.H0.
Then, you simply uninstall MM-16 from the old computer and then install it on the new computer.
One question though....Are you going to be running Windows 7 on the new computer? If you are, there may be an issue. Someone else will have to address that.
I don't have any project files that I want to transfer, just the program itself.
And yes, actually, I am running Windows 7! I didn't realize there would be unique issues there.
When you say "uninstall MM-16 from the old computer and then install it on the new computer," this is part of my question. I haven't found an installer file, and I don't have the original disc. I do have my original serial key, however.
I hate to say it, but in this case (since you don't have the disc - assuming it wasn't the download version), you'd be much better off biting the bullet and purchasing MM-17. MM-17 IS fully compatible with Windows 7. I'd recommend getting MM-17 Premium.
That does indeed bite. Thanks for taking the time, though.
A final question: Do you know if it's possible to find the download version and simply download it, then supply the serial? Would it work for the download version, given the orig was a disc installation? And if som, where do I find a safe download version of 16 Prem? I couldn't find it at the Magix site, only 17.
Well....It's worth a try. You'd need to contact MAGIX technical support and explain your dilemma. But, then again, with Window 7, you might run into a problem.
