Sustained problems with Strings Esemble

wraivencasket wrote on 2/24/2016, 4:22 PM

The program String Ensemble, sometimes it uses sustained notes, sometimes they are cut short. It's like the program has a mind of its own. I can not find a sustained option anywhere and I would really like to sustain the notes until I let go of my mouse. Even in Editing mode, regardless of how long I drag the note out it still cuts short. This will also happen with copy paste. The one copied will have the sustained notes but the one I past will not. Please help!

Hi

Without more information we would be guessing?

Which progam and version are you using?

Are you referring to the MIDI editor?  If so :-

  • Which Synthesizer are you selecting?

  • Are you playing the instrument from a midi controller or writing the notes in the MIDI editor?

  • How are you setting the sustain?

If not using MIDI then please explain in more detail what you are doing.

Hi,

Without knowing the info requested by John EB, I'll take a guess. In MMM2016Live/Premium and in the other music programs, String Instruments and some other instruments, there are articulations. If you move the scroll bar on the instrument keyboard to see the lower keys at the left, C-1 is the regular articulation which allows you to sustain a note. I think that by default, D-1 is set. Press on C-1 once, then play a note. It will be sustained. Change to D-1, E-1, F-1 and try each out.

See below for the instrument keyboard.

Thus, in the midi piano roll, you have to first have the change articulation note, followed by the played notes, change art. note, played notes etc., as shown below. In the case where I pressed D-1, it doesn't matter how long the note is stretched out, there is no sustain. For C-1, the note was held fully over its length.

Remember to use the regular keyboard and not the keyboard with the instrument to record, as the instrument keyboard cannot be used for recording.

Hi

@ John CB

Is that plugin an extra, if so where from?

If not where is it?

Hi John EB,

String Ensemble came with MusicMaker 2013 Premium, but I bought the regular version. However, I bought Samplitude Music Studio 2013 on a deal from Magix and String Ensemble came with that, along with rock drums, bass machine and world percussion.

Since I only started with MMM 2013, I think, I missed some instruments, so I just purchased Saxaphonia and Upright Bass at the urging of my wife. There wasn't as satisfactory Bass in anything that Ihad, except for maybe in Independence, which I can't get to work with MMM, only Samplitude and Music Studios.

This right here is exactly the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much, browj2~ It's the exact same program I was referring to and that answer fixed my problem. So again, thank you!
