Hi

. . . . swings out into the Pacific first. Is there any way of getting right angles in to make it more believeable . . . .

Yes, uncheck the option indicated in the image below

Hi,

If you want a rounded corner that doesn't swing way out (if that is the problem), add more points - just before the bend, in the bend, after the bend.

It would be nice if Magix would add in a feature to be able to select rounded or angle bends for each point. (like in Vasco da Gama).

@johnebaker Many thanks, that works exactly as I wanted it.

@browj2 Many thanks for the suggestion. I did try that but it was quite jerky and not as I wanted. I thought there must be a better way. I tried V de G but that was so counter-intuitive to set up routes and so limited in avatars that TM is perfect for what I need. V de G is certainly something for TM to aspire to though.

@GrumpysDad

VdG has a steep learning curve but is very powerful in what you can do with it.

For both TM and VdG, for car routes, I use Google Earth, give the start and end destination, GE selects the best routes, I select one, send it to my places and export the route to kml. Then I import the kml route into TM or VdG. In TM, you can't adjust the points; in VdG you have full access to do what you want. However, it beats plotting a lot of points on a map.

VdG, full version has many 3D avatars, much better than the ones with TM, the colours of which can be modified for many of them.

The big difference is in what you want and the time it takes to get it. I can spend hours in VdG getting what I want, or minutes in TM to get something less impressive but does the job.

Here are a couple of examples of each, VdG and TM. Of course, I break up the route and add in photos and videos in the video editor.

EDIT: I should have mentioned about adding points in TM. You can move them around to get a smooth bend. As for jerkiness, you have to modify the time between points and make sure that there is 0 stopping time - at each point. If two points are far apart, you need a longer time to get to the next one. Close points require much less time.

Hey, I was just doing a walking route that I recorded with my watch, exported to GPX, imported into TM, and I found that one can now add a location along the route. This is great!

Great work on the videos supplied. Too detailed for my requirements at the moment but great to know GE and kml can be imported. Comments on jerkiness noted as is the info about GPX. Interesting, thanks. In V de G, I noticed that planes, for example, slow down as they approach their destination - is the time variation available in TM? Adds to the realism.

Earlier references to V de G related to an older basic Essentials version (9) so will have improved greatly since then.

In TM, just add a few points along the plane route at the beginning and end and adjust the Animation Duration of each point to get the effect that you want. You need to add 2 or 3 points at about the same distance apart, giving each a shorter duration after takeoff and longer during landing, to get a smoother transition rather than abrupt. Of course, make the long leg of the trip a longer duration. Play around with these durations until you get what you want.

In VdG, I use the automatic flight mode to get smooth takeoff and landings. Only in newer versions, I believe. And then I make adjustment to that, including putting the camera into manual mode. One can spend a long time getting the effect one wants just right.

Since I have a GoPro 5, one thing that I use TM for is quickly getting the location of where I filmed so that I know where to put each sequence into the route. So long as the GPS was turned on in the GoPro, there is a way to quickly get the gpx files for all video clips in a folder. Then I just import each in turn into TM and export only the image, giving me the location and the export filename the same as the GoPro filename.
