Stars? Timing input of numbers? features on other programs?

I have questions about the latest version of Fastcut.  It isn't listed on the support page at all!

1.  I star certain areas.  It doesn't seem to follow the stars at all.  Also, if it did work, would I star the middle of the segment or the beginning.

2.  When I type in numbers for time of transition or time of the slide, it puts in other numbers than I type.  It also changes other slide times.  What is going on.

3.  Are the features of auto edit in any of your more sophisticated products.. I need to zoom in and crop and cant in fastcut.

Hi

. . . . I star certain areas.  It doesn't seem to follow the stars at all.  Also, if it did work, would I star the middle of the segment or the beginning. . . . .

Setting a pair of highlights will enable the clip to be cut in a way that the highlighted section will be fitted exactly into the middle of one of the "spaces" in a film template.

. . . . When I type in numbers for time of transition or time of the slide, it puts in other numbers than I type . . . .

Time entries and display are in the format mins:secs:frames - you need to know the frame rate of the video object to set the time correctly if you want fractions of a second.

Eg for a length of 4.5 secs you would enter 04:15 ie 4 s 15 f for 30 frame per sec video.

. . . . Are the features of auto edit in any of your more sophisticated products . . . .

There are such features in Movie Edit Pro, eg Slide show wizard which will create the movie similar to Fast cut, however the more advanced features mean you are going to have to edit manually - I would suggest you download the trial version and test it to see if it does what you want.

Note - the trial versions do have limited effects, functionality and exports are time limited.

If you do like Movie Edit Pro then purchase the Plus or Premium edition - these include a lot of extras eg templates, for movies, DVD's etc.

If you have not done so I would suggest you read the installed PDF manual available under Help, this also includes Movie Edit Pro if you decide to try it.

That is really helpful. I am very tech savvy and currently use Vegas Movie studio (whatever the latest version is) which I see you guys now own (and have made harder to use since the tool that allows me to fade in/out has been separated from the tool that allows me to make the clip longer or shorter.. Lots of clicks back to the toolbar.. but I digress).

With Fastcut, I find myself in every instance going to manual and changing/adding clips. I still love how it gives me a great start with the template... Are you saying that in Movie edit pro, I can still use similar templates. I assume I lose the star function but that is ok. There are something like 60 templates in Fastcut. How many are in Movie edit pro. If it is much less then it wouldn't be as useful... I can always do this manually with vegas.. but having it started for me with interesting "cuts" allows me to actually come out with more creative products than I would have on my own.

Hi

. . . . There are something like 60 templates in Fastcut . . . .

Movie Edit Pro (MEP) Premium come with 40 movie templates.

. . . . If it is much less then it wouldn't be as useful . . . .

Fastcut and MEP are two very different programs - whether MEP is more useful depends on the amount of control you require after using a template on your video clips, and whether you want to create Blu-Ray discs.

Fastcut is for the quick production of videos based on a set of preset templates ie it is template driven/orientated and has less user orientated editing functions and exports to one video format or burns a DVD disc.

MEP provides a much higher degree of user control in the editing process and is user driven/orientated, with some templates provided. It has a larger number of effects, editing options, video format and image support, a wide range of video export formats, and also burns Blu-Ray discs in addition to DVD discs, which can also supporting multiple movies on discs with customisable menus.
