Sony Vegas 14: how do I get rid of the A --- B double layers on track

I upgraded from a previous version, earlier version, which has caused some startling adjustments on my part to the changes made in the simplest areas. In fact I think they made it more complicated when they think they are improving it. Anyway.

In the video track instead of one video strip per usual, it has doubled with an A over B format with a crossfade symbol between them? Why did this happen?

How can I get rid of the B and keep the A; I notice that this impedes on placing additional video foot age on the A because it throws it onto B automatically?

ALSO.... sometimes I click on a track and there is this red-bar that appears on the front lip or end of the track which apparently overtakes the video preview which only shows the footage on that strip irregardless of where the I place the line on my project.

When I double click on the red parenthetical bar on the front end it disappears and then I can see the perview of my project but it also deletes other lines of a chunk of my project.

Thank you ahead of time.
