Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD High-Definition and the new Magix Edit Pro 14 Plus

Just bought a new Sony HDR-SR11 AVCHD High-Definition and the new Magix Edit Pro 14 Plus but the Magix Edit Pro 14 Plus program doesn't recognize the .m2ts file recorded.

When I connect the camera to the PC the Sony software Picture Motion Browser starts and correctly move the files from the camera to the PC without any problem (I can even play the files in the Sony Software) but when I try to import the file in Magix 14 a error message says "File 200813123434.m2ts can not be opened by Magix Edit Pro 14 Plus - Please make sure the drive in not full or write protected"

Can anyone help? Magix manual state AVCHD files can be imported.

Hi there,

This would indicate that the required codecs for the import of AVCHD footage haven't been activated yet. Please have a look at the "Help" menu of Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus. You will find a sub menu called "Activate additional functions", which lists a few codecs/functions to choose from. Each choice here will bring up an activation dialog that features different activation possibilities, including the direct online activation. You need to activate the following functions for AVCHD handling (and other purposes):

- MPEG-4 codec: for the proper decoding of the video component of the AVCHD files
- Dolby Digital Stereo decoder: for the Dolby sound of the AVCHD files
- MPEG-2 codec: to be able to convert the footage to MPEG-2 for smooth editing

Carry out these three free activations and you're ready for AVCHD editing.

I hope this helps.

If you do ot want to upate your Magix 14 to 16 with bucks.

A better way provided to you is transcoding your AVCHD files from Sony HDR-SR11 to Magix editable video formats. And the video format working the best  for Magix is WMV.

The AVCHD converter I recommended is Ausnoft MTS Conerter. It is quite easy and fast to use.

Just load AVCHD file and choose WMV as output format for Magix.
