Slow Web Publishing & Viewing

clell-jenkinsjr. wrote on 7/8/2018, 1:23 PM

We recently began resurrecting our personal website www.RotorWayFun.com which we was hosted with another hosting provider and our company site is still hosted there www.PhoenixGlass.biz. The first problem is when we go to publish the site it takes about an hour and fifteen minutes each time whether we make 1 change or 50 it seems to upload everything with the upload only changes checked. We have only begun on the site rewriting it from scratch and most of the pages only have nav bars and headings at this point. The second problem is the slow loading of the pages up on the web which if you go see our company page the pages load instantly like our personal page used to but now it loads slowly. Is this because the server is over seas or are we doing something wrong? Don't want to get this site all done and then someone say well you shouldn't have done this or that. Emailing support takes days and hopefully someone on here can help. Thanks.

Hi

The Rotorway site is loading about 4x slower than PhoenixGlass - this would suggest there is an issue a possible issue with your new host - eg speed throttling for both uploading and downloading, does your hosting package have speed limits specified?

Not that we know of, we just transferred it to the free web hosting that came with the Xara Designer Pro X. Still waiting for their reply, it's been over 3 or 4 days since we emailed them. Support is very slow so we thought we might find some answers here or on the other forum. The RotorWayFun site is eventually going to have in excess of 200 pages and we would really like to find out it won't work now at 20 some pages rather than later at 200 some pages. It might possibly be a text issue because we have been copying the old site from the previous 2000 era WEBX website program into a 2007 Microsoft Office Word file and then copying from that to XARA and have noticed that when we view the pages online as it loads we see the text goes from small to larger likes it's being transformed as it loads into the browser. That could be just because it's loading so slow and we can see it all happen where if was loading faster you wouldn't see that normally. Not sure, we might try retyping one page from scratch and see if it works better maybe.

That can cause a big issue, copying from Word may also be copying all the formatting information, Word text is not plain text which is what you need.

To ensure that only plain text is used in Xara WD - paste into Notepad or Notepad++ (my preferred alternative to Notepad), then copy and paste this text into Xara and do any formatting there.

That might explain a lot of it, we was afraid of something like that. Guess we will try that, haven't heard of Notepad++ will have to Google that one. Thanks again. 😀

We tried Notepad no change.

We have another Xara website at www.PhoenixGlass.biz that is very intense (63 pages and 2877 images).  It is written and published in the same manner with the same Xara software over the years but hosted on a US webserver by Ipower that has no issues that we can complain about, when we view the pages they load instantly and publishing uploads changes and additions quickly.

We are thinking that the problems with the speed may be either the free hosting is throttled or limited or when we first started the site the software templates had the mobile version page included in it, which we deleted thinking that may be the problem but we didn't see a change.  Maybe there is something in our Xara hosting index directory left over from that causing a problem.  On the Ipower server we have the capability of viewing and editing on the hosting server but we have not found any thing like that on the Xara server.

As far as the viewing our speed is fine on everything else we view, seems the folks in Germany and now I see the chap above in England it loads fine for him too but they are a lot closer to the server than us, don't know that it matters.  Here is a screenshot of what we see on our site at http://www.rotorwayfun.com/whats-new.htm
