Saved video plays at half speed, sound is normal speed

Brian-Gardner wrote on 4/20/2024, 6:08 AM

When I export a video and play it, the video plays back at half speed while the audio plays at regular speed. I just purchased this software today, and outside of looking through all the settings to see if I could find a reason for this, I have not made any changes.

I'm using Movie Studio 2024 Platinum
OS: Windows 11 CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X GPU: Radeon RX 6800 XT 32GB RAM

@Brian-Gardner

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Self-evidently, this is gameplay footage, but what software did you use to record it? Can you read and follow this tutorial to get a MediaInfo analysis of your file as recorded, please? Please paste the results of the Text view here.

Then, please tell us exactly which export template you used; a screenshot of its setting screen would be helpful.

Can you also post a MediaInfo analysis of the exported file? Again, show us the Text results of this.

One thing to check: is the audio sample rate of your gameplay recording the same as the setting in MMS? MMS will normally expect 48kHz.

I used Instant Replay in AMD Adrenaline software to record the video, which looks and runs perfectly fine. Only once I save the edited video in Movie Maker does the video go into slow motion.

@Brian-Gardner

Thanks for supplying all that data! It really does help.

An initial very quick read shows these "anomalies", I think.

  • Your original footage was recorded at 60fps (variable, but the degree of variability should NOT really create problems).
  • Your exported footage, though you chose 59.9414 on the Export screen, is, according to MediaInfo, actually 25fps! I have no idea at all why this discrepancy is happening!

If that is correct, and I have no reason to doubt what MI is showing, then I think that could go some way towards explaining what you see in your exported footage.

I will tag @johnebaker into this to see whether he has nay further ideas.

One thing to note, please: the software is Magix Movie Studio, NOT Movie Maker!

I guess I did type Maker instead of Studio ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ at least I got it right the first time I typed it. The discrepancy of the FPS is strange. Looking forward to any ideas as to what may be causing that to happen.

@Brian-Gardner, @emmrecs

Hi Brian, Jeff

One immediate 'peculiarity' is in the export settings, the source video is 60.8 Mb/s and 60.000 FPS, in the export settings used, the Average Bitrate setting of 6000 kbits/s (6 Mb/s) and audio bitrate of 120 kbits/s.

This would suggest either:

  • The actual preset used is not the one indicated in the image above

    or

  • The preset Advanced settings have been changed, the preset name changing to 'User defined'.

Were the advanced settings changed and if so, is there a specific reason for the changes, which and to what values? A screenshot of the Advanced settings used would help.

The video settings are, IMHO, way too low for FullHD 1920 x 1080 59.9 fps - the preset default values are Ave: 28000, Max: 35000 kbits/s and audio at 160 kbit/s.

I don't remember changing anything, but clearly, I did something without realizing it. Looking at the screenshot you provided, I compared that to what I'm seeing and see the issue. I messed with the advanced settings and made a new edited video, and everything runs as expected now. Thank you, John and Jeff, for your help.
