Samplitude Music Studio 2013 Does Not Start Anymore!

Former user wrote on 1/16/2014, 7:46 PM

Hello Guys/Gals:

Operating System: Windows (v8.1) running on a Laptop.

Recently, a member sent me a message with the above question noted in the title.  She says that all attempts to get the program started has failed and contains this message: "The Program could not be started.  The folder may be damaged.  Reinstalling the program could remedy the problem.  If the error occurs again, contact support.  ERROR CODE -6"

Even though I have used this program, I personally have not had the problems she refers.  She is also experiencing similar problems with Music Studio 2103 and 2014; where she does not get any sound from MIDI or playback.  Attempts at plugging in her Alesis QS8 through an AudioBox USB produces nothing either.

I have quite a bit of PC tech knowledge, but am no tech pro with: Samplitude Music Studio 2013.

Any suggestions or pointers will be more than welcomed.

Thanks folks.

Griff

Hi Griff

I would suspect that as all the Magix programs have stopped working, the computer originally had Windows 8 installed and has been upgraded to Windows 8.1 - this is known to break some programs.

If so then re-installing the software and using the Repair option usually fixes the problem - this will have to be done for all 3 installations.

Hi John:

Thanks for responding.  I will certainly copy and paste your answer to the forum member having the problems.

Hopefully, these issues are related to the Win 8.1 so-called "upgrade" and not something inherent within something more esoteric.

Hey Griff,

John is a solid windows 8 supporter.  Me not so much.  I think that windows 8 is the worst abominatin of a OS that Microsoft has ever created for a PC user.  Probably great for tablets but horrible for PC's.  My suggestion is to go and get a Windows 7 emulator or "shell", go back to the older OS and all should be fine.  I know that John will likely not agree with me, but Windows 8 really sucks for older desktop and laptop machines.

Hi George:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 is still my OS of choice.  I have a test computer where Win 8.1 is running.  (As a computer tech I needed to familiarize myself with all of its nuances and such).  In my line of work, the legions of complaints ring loudly in my head on a daily basis.  When will those Microsoft guys ever learn?

The forum member in question upgraded her laptop with version 8.1.  No doubt, a huge mistake.

Thus far, I have not heard back from her as to whether or not John's suggestions have met with success.  I'll certainly keep both of you guys posted.

Thanks again fellas for your thoughts on the issue(s)...

Hi

@ George

. . . . I know that John will likely not agree with me . . .

Correct    - worst ever was Windows Millenium - absolute disaster fortunately it had a very short life !!

Windows 8.1 fixes the 'issues' with 8 in terms of being a tablet / touch screen OS, but unfortunately some changes in the OS break some programs.

If you want a really stupid combination (IMHO of course) - laptop with keyboard + touchscreen - !!!!!!

What do you need a touchscreen on a standard format laptop, ie one that does not transform into a tablet, for ?????

If you want to see how bad it is try demonstrating to someone using it - I can guarantee you or they will, at some point, point to the screen and touch it.

Cheers

John

Hi Guys:

After the major disaster known as Millenium, and the subsequent debacle called Vista (all versions), the folks at Redmond were starving for a hit.  Along comes Windows 7 and Microsoft thought they finally had a Eureka! moment.  Well, sort of...  Things did not go really smooth until after they published SP1 and some other tweaks.  After performing some more tweaks on my various x64 Ultimate machines at home, I have no plans to spiral backwards with any version of Windows 8 (save for the lone "test" machine sitting in a cob-webbed corner of my guest bedroom).

One of Microsoft's major problems is the fact that they never (or at least hardly ever) listen to suggestions made by their customer base.  They remain singularly focused; hell-bent on churning out version after version, with seemingly no thought of what is 'really' important.  And, more importantly, what their users want.  Call it hubris, arrogance, single-mindedness, stupidity, or whatever, ultimately they always seem to fall short of the mark with each new OS release.

In the end, I'll continue to use Windows 7, at least until those helmet-wearing, tone-deaf birds at Redmond climb down from their Ivory Tower and begin listening to the folks 'on the ground'.
