Hi, Is photostory Deluxe 2022 compatible with Apple mac computers?

emmrecs wrote on 8/24/2021, 9:29 AM

@Godfrey-Evans

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Very, very few Magix products are MAC-compatible, including PhotoStory Deluxe, sorry! This page lists the actual requirements for PS.

Hi I've just updated to the 2022 version and have several issues, in the Program settings there is no folder path listed for Menu Editor, this means no changes will be accepted to any other program settings (Error Appears Indicated file does not exist) I need to change video settings as Full Screen Preview is jerky worse than I've ever had. Even if I could change the video output settings there are only 3 options the default Nvidia, CPU and Microsoft Warp. I cant change them anyway because of the missing folder

@David-Robinson5527

Hi David,

I can answer about the Menu Editor. This is for an editor that can handle PSD files, like PhotoShop and Xara Designer Pro X/Photo & Graphics Designer. It is only used in the Burn Editor if you want to modify the menu DIY. It's not all that easy. This has nothing to do with the graphics or anything else in the program.

Thanks for that. Thats good to know that and I dont think I will ever need to amend that. My jerky playback problem still remained so I uninstalled and reinstalled version 2022 but that didnt fix it. Today I reset the program to default settings and all seems fixed with very smooth playback in full screen mode. I guess the program setting changes I had made in version 2021 which were carried over into 2022 must have caused a conflict somwhere. Its also stopped the error message when OK button was hit in the program settings, before I could only escape from the settings menu using the X or Cancel buttons now that seems fixed also.

David-Robinson5527 wrote on 9/10/2021, 4:21 AM

Further testing of several projects shows the jerky playback is still present with some of them, I cant explain why some 3-4 minute projects preview very smoothly while others of only 1-2 minutes jerk and freeze. Version 2021 was very good after I changed video playback settings but I cant fix it in this version.

I am an enthusiastic amateur photographer, I enjoy editing my photos. I find a good way to display holidays, events and projects is to use Photostory to create a more interesting diary.

Hi

Re-installing rarely fixes the issue you are having and repeated uninstall/re-install can make the situation worse as there are leftover files and settings which must be removed before re-installing.

The playback issue is likely due to:

  1. The GTX drivers are not up to date. If you are not gaming on this computer then I would recommend you switch to the Nvidia Studio drivers.

    and/or

  2. Some effects applied to video/images are not hardware accelerated, in the settings shown in your image 3 above try using the Microsoft Warp option to see if this improves the playback.

It looks like you have a new computer - can you please put the specification in your profile signature so that we do not have to ask for it or search previous posts, details required are in this topic.

Thanks for that John, yes my Video driver was 2 months out of date but I'm afraid updating to the latest version Studio driver 471.68 has not improved the situation. I was already using the studio drivers and I have tried Microsoft Warp but its no better probably worse especially when slides zoom in or out. Strange some projects run smoothly with similar zoom and transition settings. I can live with it but the jerkiness is decidedly worse with version 2022 than 2021

I purchased a Photostory Deluxe 365 annual subscription in August 2021. Can I assume that if I download it again I am accessing Photostory Deluxe 2022?

@akakoala

Hi

You should already have Photostory 2022.

Check the version number under Help, About - Photostory 2022 is currently version 21.0.1.96.

Thank you

I had a problem with my computer and had to reinstall a lot of software. So I haven't had a working copy of Photostory for several months. I reinstalled just now and it is v 21.0.1.74. I'll check to see if there is an update. I have established it is entitled 2022.

I find determining whether I am up to date with Magix products, what I have paid for and whether I have the most recent features to be far more complicated than any of the many programs I own.

Bonjour,

J'utilise Photostory Deluxe version 21.0.1.101 (UDP3), code UG 8674 KA1.

Any plans for updates - or have Photostory developments been stopped? (Seems that the last update was in august 2021, while the description talks about "regular quarterly updates")

johnebaker wrote on 3/20/2022, 2:01 PM

@jann

Hi

I assume you are quoting from the Photostory Subscription Service section, this text:

'By purchasing a subscription service, you can take advantage of regular quarterly updates, creative photo tools, inspiring tutorials and royalty-free music for your animated slideshows.'

Users with a valid Subscription Service will get these items, a user with no subscription service, or an Update Service, valid or expired, do not get these items.

What I do not see in the text is how many or what combination of items are being released quarterly - that is a question only Magix can answer.

Thanks for your comment.

PhotoStory has its flaws, but it's quite handy if you want to quickly transform photo albums to a slideshow.

I use it occasionally, and i'm somewhat satisfied with it. But as my PhotoStory is a couple years old, (updateservice ran out in 2020), I consider upgrading to the current version, or maybe maybe to a subscription.

However, when browsing new features, I can hardly see anything significant new happened in last two years. So, i was wondering if Magix is about to abandon Photostory?

johnebaker wrote on 3/20/2022, 5:35 PM

@jann

Hi

. . . .  I can hardly see anything significant new happened in last two years. . . . .

There have been some major changes:-

  • the 'engine', is now the same engine that powers Movie Studio (formerly Movie Edit Pro) and Video Pro X.

  • The new engine means supported AMD and Nvidia graphics can be utilised for hardware acceleration.

  • The Size & Position and the Rotation effects are now rolled into one effect, and has new features such as, the centre of rotation is now located in the centre of the screen or object, the ability to move the rotation point of an object to anywhere on and off the screen.

  • A redesigned timeline for easier editing

. . . . i was wondering if Magix is about to abandon Photostory . . . .

With the re-aligning of products ie Movie Edit Pro and Movie Studio merger, Photostory has its own niche for beginners and users who need an editor that is quick and easy to use with a shallow learning curve.

Movie Studio and Video Pro X are prosumer and professional editors respectively, and have steeper learning curves, however upgrading from Photostory to either version is easier as many of the principles are the same.

Whether you go for the Upgrade at a reduced price, as you already own an earlier version, or Subscription model, I would suggest you read the terms and conditions of the Subscription service - see this page and the linked to FAQs in that page.
