Recording in Sampltude ?

Can you record an object in Samplitude or not ?

I put an object on to a track ready for recording the object.

When I press on record, not only is it rubbing out the object as it goes along but I don't have a recording of the object either.

It is doing both the same with midi and audio.

I can record my voice and guitar with no problem at all and it shows that there is my voice on the track to.

I am using Samplitude Music Studio 2014, and I am also running windows 8.1 12GB 2TB i7 desk top computer.

I have the iTrack solo interface which has asio drivers too, I also have the Akai MPK225 controller.

Can anyone help with this problem please ?

Hi,

You lost me a bit with your question "Can you record an object in Samplitude or not ?" followed by "I can record my voice and guitar with no problem at all.."

Why are you putting an object on a track to record? Of course you are going to overwrite it if you record over it.

What exactly are you trying to record? You already can record voice and guitar.

To record another instrument or even more voice, use a separate track and only arm it for recording. If you have set up everything properly to monitor through headphones, you will hear what has already been recorded and you can play along or sing along with it but recording to a separate track. If you look through previous messages about Samplitude, both under Q&A and under the Forum tab, you will find that I have probably described how to do this in detail.

Most importantly, read the manual to properly understand what you are doing. When I use Samplitude, I alway have the manual open to help me along.

Hi Browj2

Sorry I didn't explain properly.

You are right in what you say about having the instructions open lol, I think it is me just being lazy.

When I say about the recording my voice and guitar with no problem, I mean about my voice and guitar (LIVE)oprating though an interface.

When I mean an object, I mean any object that is for me to choose within samplitude, for instance adding a bit of drums, or saxophone ETC and making a loop out of them.

So in other words not only am I recording my voice that I am singing and my guitar that I am playing myself but also several objects to choose from within samplitude to make a full tune ?

Can you please tell me how I can open your answers that you have given, rather than have to troll through the Q'S & A's ?

Thank you again

Derek

Hi Derek,

Let's get the jargon right. An object is something that is on the timeline, not something that you choose. You want to create an object. For example, if you record your voice or guitar into SMS, there will be an object on the timeline. It wasn't there until you made it.

Version 2014 does not have an on-screen keyboard, as far as I recall, and you cannot record using the keyboard that shows up with the instruments. You need an external keyboard or pad of some kind. This has changed in 2015 and there is an on-screen keyboard that allows you to record a midi object.

If you want to add piano or some other instrument, you have to create a midi object by recording something using one of the instruments, or by using one of the synthesizers. Look up midi in help. Select an empty track, and in the track editor at the left, go down to Midi. For In, add in your USB keyboard or all. Under Out/VSTi, click on the down arrow and you will get a list of instruments and synthesizers. Select Acoustic piano, then acoustic piano from the second list. Right-click on the track and open the VST instrument editor. You can change instruments at the top or change parameters. Play something on the keyboard at the bottom of the instrument editor. Play on your external keyboard. Press on record and play on your external keyboard. Press record or stop or spacebar to stop recording. Accept the recording. You should now have a midi object on the track.

The synthesizers work differently. Select an empty track. Click on the arrow under Out/VSTi again. Look way down the list for Object synthesizer and select Beat box. This automatically creates a 4 bar midi object with a default beat and opens the Beatbox 2 editor. Add in your other percussion instruments on the screen and they will be in the loop on the arranger. To modify this later, simply double-click on the object in the arranger and it will open Beatbox 2.

Under synthesizers, you also have Loop designer and Robota. They all create objects that can be modified by using the synth.

This should get you started. SMS is a powerful program with many features. You are going to have to invest some time in learning.

I suggest that you watch the Magix SMS tutorials and that you also look at some of the Kraznet tutorials on YouTube. He has created more than 150 tutorials for Samplitude Pro, but many apply to SMS. You can also join the Samplitude Pro forum and you will find plenty of help there.
