Recording count-in and MIDI vs Audio Recording

Hi

I am a Apple Logic Pro user, who need to do some work on my Windows PC, and have decided that Samplitude is the best tool for me. I am currently demoing the program.

There are just a couple of things that I need to know, that don’t appear to be obvious to me. Please forgive me if I refer to Logic….
1. In Logic, when I start to record at 1:00:000, it actually starts at -4:00:000 to give me 4 measures to get ready. I looked in the record menu and didn’t see that functionality. Am I missing that?

2. When I record, sometimes I see “waves” like I’m recording audio, and sometimes I see bars, like I’m recording MIDI. How can I know and or pick which one I want to record.

3. Lastly, When I record in Logic, and I start the recording at 1:00:000 but don’t actually start playing until 4:00:000 to 11:00:000, Logic automatically trims the measure to only where I played. I noticed when I think I am recording MIDI (because I see bars) it doesn’t trim the measure. Everything I recorded, including the empty passages are included in that measure. How do I eliminate this, other than to just cut the measure manually.

Thank you in advance for your help. I look forward to making much music with this.

Chaz
