Hi
Got myself in a bit of a mess after VPX started crashing on program start up with an error with the libmfxhw64.dll (which I believe is something to do with HEVC even though I was not using HEVC) after I did an earlier update. I previously rolled back to an earlier Win Restore point and I think I waited to the next patch to install. All was OK up to couple of days ago when VPX crashed with the same error even with an empty project. After several attempts at opening a project I got an error - 5 window that said the program installation had become corrupt and to repair or reinstall the program.
I rolled back to before a recent restore point but no improvement so decided to try a repair which is available with the VPX installer. No luck, so then tried reinstalling but got Windows? error "VPX - Installation" "Unelevated Post Finished process could not be created. The requested operation requires elevation. (740) Path C:\Program files\.........\Video_Pro_X.exe"
Still crashing now again but after trying to update and it saying the "update was already installed" and would I like to repair, The program seemed to run OK but the "About VPX " window showed the update was not present and what's more the Serial number was missing and "0days left" showed instead. Other indications in use proved that I was still on the Trial version. Magix support site showed I was installed and registered and activated with correct serial number.
Rolled back to an earlier restore point prior to a windows update earlier in December and, referring to John EB's procedure I uninstalled again and deleted or moved all the references I could find to VPX8, reinstalled with similar errors as before but this time I could re register and all showed up in the program - cool. However it still resists my attempts to update to the latest patch (130) saying it is already installed. Does anyone know how to deinstall an online update?
At some points in all this I could not enable HWA for preview, plus now some of my effects dialogs are in German. Sorry but the sequence is a little bit of a blur.
BTW I am still on Win10 Pro build 1511 having deferred the anniversary update.
Googling revealed that the libmfxhw.dll was missing in some Intel SDK, so I installed the latest Intel and Nvidia graphics driver which seems to have got rid of the crashing but VPX will not update although working OK.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the Magix cleaner tool. Will this allow you to target just the uninstall of a target program or does it affect earlier installed versions?
Help would be much appreciated because in all the years of using MEP, VPX I have never needed to solve any problem by re installing so am treading carefully and are wary of cleaners, uninstallers, etc. that might have other effects on my dedicated clean Magix System.
Thanks and sorry about the long winded post.
Peter
