portrait-oriented video

Hi,

I'm trying X7 and setup a project as 720 wide x 1280 tall (i.e. portrait oriented) for importing mobile-phone video shot in portrait style, but the imported video is appearing rotated (-90 degrees) in the project/video monitor (horizontal). When exported as a MPEG4, the frame details are correct in the MP4 file, but is also appearing rotated in the same way. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or is aware of a solution.  Thanks.

Hi

. . . . 720 wide x 1280 tall . . . .

Use Effects, Movement Effects, Rotation to rotate the image back to portrait - you can then export as portrait - setting the resolution to 720 * 1280.

Unless the viewer program and the screen are like those of a cell phone, then 720 wide x 1280 tall may work. But if you want to create a DVD or view the exported movies on a normal HD wide screen tv or monitor, then you should use the normal orientation. We found that most viewing programs did not like viewing video output that was in portrait mode.

Read through this long thread in which we covered most of this topic, extensively. The OP wanted to view on a wide screen a video taken in portrait mode on a cell phone, with the image filling the entire screen with no cropping of the image. My solution was to turn the tv 90 degrees. The best solution is to not take video in portrait mode on a cell phone.

Thanks John & John for your helpful replies. Effects rotation was a good start.. Though I exported as 720x1280, the footage seems to be 1280x720 but tagged as 720x1280 - I will look into this some more..
