Poor video quality exporting with MEP 15, 16 even Video Pro X

I do most of my editing on the Mac with Final Cut Studio, but I have a need to do some editing out in the field with a laptop. I don't have a Mac laptop (yet) so I am using a new PC laptop with Windows 7-64bit. I have been a Magix fan for many years, so I thought I would try MEP plus and Video Pro X.

Bottom line- the output from the Magix programs is - well, terrible.

All of my source material is shot on MiniDV tape. Most files aree 60 minutes long, and about 15GB. The  miniDV tapes are off-loaded to my Mac desktop in MOV format, NTSC DV 720/29.97.

I've confirmed all my settings in the Magix software is correct. I simply imported the MOV files into the Magix programs, then export in a couple different formats, as well as create a DVD.

I also am tring out Sony Vegas, and the video it exports or burns to dvd is every bit as good as that which I get from Final Cut.

So... any one else have issues? Is it possible that some of the CODECs I have on the laptop are not compatible with the Magix programs?

gdzubay,

CODECs might be part of the problem, particularly as your as unnecessarily changing format several times. Why not import from you miniDV directly as MPEG which is the file format for DVDs. You can then also use 'smart rendering'.

You say your settings are correct -- have you gone to the 'Advanced...' window and adjusted anything there? The default 'Quality' is usually 10 and is best set to the max 15. You can also increase the bitrate as long as the project will fit on your disc.

Others will no doubt have additional suggestions.
