Photostory Travel Map - unable to rearanging the order of Locations

Hi,

These are 2 separate programs/apps and you have both.

In your first image, this is called Magix Travel Maps, which is a new standalone program that can be opened from within PhotoStory or alone. I didn't see any help on this, but there is a tutorial on the Magix.com site.

The second image is of Travel Route Animation, which is available under Edit, Wizards, Travel Route Animation has been available for years in PhotoStory and Movie Edit Pro.

These two programs work differently.

Hi

Travel Maps, the program you have, and Travel Route Animation, the manual you have, are 2 different programs.

Travel Maps is a standalone program, the older Travel route animation is still under Edit, Wizards in the program, however there is an issue connecting to Google maps and gives an error message, clicking Yes, the program still works.

In Travel Maps moving locations up/down is, AFAICS, not possible.

Thanks for your feedback, I have just been playing with an older version of photostory delux and I can run the older Travel Route Animation. The newer software is nicer to use with more maps and produces higher resolution video. It's a real shame that I just can't rearange the locations. Would anyone know if this feature with be added in a future version of hte software ?

I can confirm there is a issue with changing locations in Travel Map. I have the very latest patch (1.0.1.193), you can find out by click on the "i" below the +- buttons down-right in the map.

TRA is still in the latest version of PhotoStory under Edit, Wizards, Travel Route Animation, at least it is in mine (18.2.1.42). No need to open an old version to get it. In fact, it's not a good idea to open an old version as there have been changes to OpenStreetMaps and Magix had to make adjustments.

Thanks for checking, I have looked at my versions for For Travel maps and it is 1.0.1.193 and my photostory deluxe is 18.1.2.48 (UDP3).

I hope the issue with changing locations can be sorted soon as it is a very good piece of software otherwise.

You are absolutly right, it was Travel Map version I meant.

I will correct in the original post.

As you have PSD version. 18.1.2.42 and not latest 18.1.2.48 (which I and @bgbphotographer have) you probably also have not the latest Travel Map version as it came in same update. So does the rearrange location work in your version?

I have Travel Maps 1.0.1.193 and am able to move my locations.

To move them select Locations on the top menu of Travel Maps.

If your locations are hidden (Eye icon ticked) first unhide (untick the Eye icon) the location to be changed.

Beneath each location name on the map is a small circle on or near the path. Move your cursor toward the location you want to change. As you approach the location the cursor arrow will change to 4 arrow heads (at north, south, east & west). Now left click and drag the circle to its new location. Repeat until satisfied.

The method you have suggested is correct for moving the locations on the map, however @bgbphotographer is referring to re-arranging the order of the locations ie changing the order of the locations indicated by the blue arrow in the image below to a new sequence which, AFAIK, is not possible.

Thanks johnebaker, yes I really need to rearrange the order of the locations, and insert new one in between existing locations. The old software had arrows in the menu bar that allowed you to select a location in the list and then by using the arrow keys you could move it up and down the list. Ufortunately the new software doesn't seem to have this capability.

These numbers can be confusing.

I have the latest version of PhotoStory Premium VR, 18.2.1.42, not 18.1.2.48 which is what you have. Note the 18.2 for me vs 18.1 for you.

For Travel Maps, I have 1.0.1.197. In my case, the host application is PhotoStory Premium VR.

To be clear, please keep in mind that the "old software" is actually TRA, a different program. Travel Maps is not an update/upgrade to TRA.

In my version Travel Maps, I can't rearrange the order either. The most that you can do is as John EB indicated, move the location marker around between adjacent markers. You also cannot insert points. These would be nice features. Perhaps you and others can suggest this to Magix for future updates.

Come to think of it, one cannot rearrange the points in Vasco da Gama either. However, inserting points is possible.

For all, there is a new application, Google Earth Studio, which does 3D flyovers, fly-arounds, and has keyframing. Google now has many places mapped in 3D. It's quite fantastic, but it does not do paths/routes.

The solution to Your problem is actully quite simple.

Add your missing location. Make sure you name yor locations properly.

Save the Travel Map to file (extension is .mxgeo) and note the file location.

Close Travel Map (and PSD).

Open the saved file in Notepad (or a texteditor of your choise).

The file is organized as an *.ini file With sections ([sectionname]) and keyword and values (keyword=value)

Now towards the end of the file you will find a section named [keywords] that have a keyword value stating the number of locations (elements=<numberOfLocations>)

Following this there are sections with the name keypoint<Locationnumber> starting With number zero ([keypoint0]) and then [keypoint1] up to one less than number of locations.

Simply rearrange the locations by changing the number ending in the section name, ie [keypoint1] to [keypoint2] and [keypoint2] to [keypoint3] and (originally) [keypoint3] to [keypoint1] and then you will have location 4 between location 1 and 2.

I have tested with a simple four location route and it worked like a charm.

Thanks very much shgrude, I have tried editing the ini file as you suggested and it works just fine. This is going to be a great help as I have well over 100 location points and I just need to rearrange them slightly. Also, now with your solution I can insert new ones but adding them on to the end of the list in Travel Maps, then rearrage them in the ini file.

This has been helpful for me, thanks. Hope it's added as a feature by Magix. I've also noticed that you can curve around, say, coastlines by adding points then having no marker and reducing time at that location to zero.

Another thing I've done is to add different Avatars from TRA to Travel Maps. I found the location of the cruise ship avatar files (120 images), batch resized them from 128x128 to 256x256, renamed and switched them for one of the existing avatars (ferry in my case).

Brilliant!

I was able to change the background photos using the file.

I was not able to find a way to set the default stop duration to 0, but I used Replace to do it quickly using Notepad, just leaving or changing the durations at the desired locations.

If you have a route that you want to trace, say, following a trail, it may be more convenient to use Google Earth to trace the path, export the path to a kml file and convert it to gpx. See the other post for the problems with this method.
