PhotoStory on DVD No sound on preview

roling wrote on 1/10/2013, 12:30 PM

I am manually (without the wizard) building a slide show in PhotoStory on DVD 2013 Deluxe. I drag and drop an audio file into an audio track. When I preview there is no sound. When I burn a DVD the sound is just fine. Why can't I hear the sound in preview mode? I am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.

Please go to the option File - Settings - Program.

Go to the Playback option and check your audio settings. If you have the Wave Driver selected, then make sure that the correct device is selected in the drop down menu. Normally something along the lines of Realtek HD, if you are using the basic soundcard on your motherboard.

Hi

Open the Sounds option in the Control Panel and check that you have the playback devices enabled as in this image, also right click the blank are below the Realtek HD to get the Show disabled devices etc and check both these as shown

Also while you are in these dialogs - click the Recording tab and check that you have the stereo mixer enabled as shown in this image - will save you problems later on when cannot record from the audio card.

Hi

Is the Realtek HD Audio Manager installed in the Control Panel?

If not this may mean you have only partial drivers installed and you do not have full functionality of the Realtek HD - my current PC was like this when I bought it and I had to download the full Realtek drivers to get some of the functions back ie the Stereo Mixer

The only other thing I can suggest is to open the Realtek HD Audio Manager and go through the settings and the sound demo to check everything is OK.

I presume you can hear sound from other sources eg Windows Media Player ?

Hi

I presume the added audio track plays OK outside of Photostory?

What format is the audio file?

Hi

I updated my sound card drivers from the Realtek site, as I too originally  had a 'crippled' audio card on my PC when I got it.

You can try the drivers from Realtek, however you do this at your own risk, although you can roll back the drivers if there is no change or a problem.

These are the options I get after updating the drivers - these are the settings from Movie Edit Pro - Photostory should be similar.

According to the manual you should have a DirectX option for audio playback - have you tried this or is it missing - if it is missing then you can re-install it with the latest version from Microsoft
