Photostory Deluxe (2017/18 ?)

centuryfox wrote on 2/16/2019, 10:01 AM

Hi. I have a previously owned version of PStory Deluxe complete with serial number. The installation is interrupted and halted by by Error  (DF960A1E-B701-B3BC A06B D6B9ABF34537 Hresult 0X80670490 )  Not sure if every letter is right.

It appears that the disk has been previously registered as I would expect
Any advise on how to overcome this frustrating problem would be appreciated. I have owned previous versions of Photostory, never had a problem. John

@centuryfox

Hi

At what point was the installation interrupted?

Is there any more to the Error code message eg Error no -xxx ?

Did the previous owner uninstall and de-register the software?

We also need more information about your computer - see this topic for details of what is required.

Hi John.. thanks for getting back to me. Three attempts, each time the error came up at a slightly different number. Between 2 and 5 I think sorry to be so vague. Here is My comp details. Never gave a thought to whether it can handle this version of Photostory. If necessary I will try and load it again if you think there is more to the error code. ?

I will try to find out if the previous owner de registered it...but I would doubt it. J

If that is the case, and you cannot "persuade" the former owner to deregister the app, I'm almost certain you will not be able to register it yourself.

Oh dear ! is it imperative to register... Its an installation error, I have the serial code. J.

is it imperative to register

Short answer, in my experience, yes, otherwise the program will operate only in Trial mode and is likely to be limited to a maximum of 30 days.

Exactly which version of PS are you attempting to install? The latest is 18.1.2.48, though I would guess, from the fact you say yours has been pre-owned, that it is likely to be rather older. Perhaps it is incompatible with Win 10?

As @johnebaker previously advised, I think we are going to need to see the exact wording of any error message you receive whilst attempting the installation.

Cant find 'version' but the disk is copyrighted 2017 for win 7 8 10. The cover picture of the box indicates its 2018. MSXML 4

Hi again.

A very quick Google search on that error code gives this page. It seems this error is caused by some sort of problem in configuration files, or .dll files. Whatever, the solution seems to be slightly complicated to resolve! 😭

I have no experience of trying ANY of those solutions offered so you should proceed very carefully if you decide to try to resolve it yourself! Sorry not to be able to be more help to you.

@centuryfox

Looking at the top link Jeff has provided, it would suggest that there is an issue with Windows, ie it has one or more mismatched files.

Assuming you have Windows 10, it would help if we knew which version - if you are not sure, hold down the Windows key and press the R key, in the dialog that opens type in winver and press Enter. You should now see your Windows version/build number.

Try uninstalling and re-installing the software following this procedure.

Thank you both for your help and suggestions, much appreciated. Im retired and no computer whizz. I will look at what you have advised to try. J.

Thought Id followed up... evidently not. A scanow revealed and repaired damaged files but even so I get the same error. I have returned the disk to the previous owner. J.
