Photo Manager 15 Unusable on high resolution screen

witecat wrote on 2/7/2023, 5:41 PM

I just installed the Photo Manager 15 on Surface 4 Pro with screen resolution 2736X1824 with magnification scale 200% and it looks awful!

Most labels, text and icons appear microscopical, the software is impossible to use this way.

Some submenu fonts scale, but still look awful since they scale beyond their menu boundry and the overflow gets cut off and is hence unreadable.

This was a common problem 7 years ago when high res screens were somewhat unusual, but for an allegedly modern software to not scale properly is just plain bad.

I really want to give this software a fair trial, so I'm going to keep it in hope to find a way to be able to actually use it.

I could not see any way to give feedback to Magix, I would like to give feedback for their own benefit, really.

Maybe they are not interested in improving their software?

Anyhow, if anyone has any ideas on how to get the software to scale properly, please advise.

As it is, I can't see anything in the menus well enough to chase for scaling options.

Thank you in advance

Hi,

Photo Manager is several years old and desperately needs a new version.

I could not see any way to give feedback to Magix, I would like to give feedback for their own benefit, really.

Hit the Support button at the top of the forum, select the product, scroll to the bottom of the screen. The rest should be obvious.

@witecat

In addition to what @browj2 writes, please bear in mind that the latest (now admittedly still rather old) version of PM is 17. The fact that you are running version 15 suggests you have owned this software for a considerable number of years, perhaps from long before high resolution screens were even thought of!

@emmrecs

That be as it may, but I downloaded this software couple of days ago. So no, I haven't owned it for a number of years. I tend to

a) master software that I keep

b) not keep unused software just laying about.

I will check out the PM17

@witecat

Thank you for the additional information.

Inevitable question: where did you download this version from? Since it is so old I am very surprised that any site would still be offering it. (I believe version 17 was actually released in 2016 or 2017.)

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff,

I have what shows as Photo Manager Deluxe, which is version 13.1.1.12, purchased in December of 2017. As far as I know, that is the latest version.

@witecat

Hi,

Under Help, About, what version do you see?

The version I have has smaller print on my 4K screen than on 1080 screen, but not that small.

I suggest that you ask Magix if they are going to release an upgraded version soon, as it is past due. The current version still has the old Travel Maps which barely works. Magix needs some interest from users to get them moving.

@browj2

Hi John,

The "numbering system" for PM is very confusing! My installed version shows, under Help>About, as 13.1.1.12, like yours. However if you go to the program folder in Program Files (x86)/MAGIX .. I think you will find the folder is labelled "17", it certainly is for me!

Because @witecat said he had version 15 I assumed this number was based on that folder name, hence my comment about an old version. Hopefully he will be able to confirm exactly which version he has!
