Photo and Graphic Designer 6 to Photo and Graphic Designer 11

I have had Designer 6 for the last 4 years. While I wasn't looking, Microsoft minions upgraded my computer to Windows 10.  I just purchased Designer 11 and before I install it, I'm wondering, can someone tell me. Will my files from Xara 6 convert over into 11 automatically?? Or will I lose my previous work?

TIA!!

Hi,

I have no idea. Why not just install it to see? Try opening the old file in the new version.

The next version of Designer is due out in about a month. You may want to try it out first, get a refund, and wait for the new version. You have 30 days, I believe.

The problem with trying it out to see, is that I use it for my business and I have several hundred designs that I need to keep so I'm hoping someone will know if the old files will open, when I update, before I do it.

Hi Tia,

Your existing files do not get automatically updated when you install a new version. And you can have more than one version on your computer and open the version that you want. Normally, one keeps the old version just in case. If it doesn't work with W10, then obviously you can't do this.

Your existing files will only be updated when you load the file and save it. To be on the safe side, make another backup (you already have a backup, right?) or a copy of your files, put them in a separate folder, and use one or the other for the new version. With other programs, I open the previous version file in the latest program and save with a new name. For example, I would save as and append _X11 just before the.XAR. Then I know which version was saved. Then I delete the previous version from the same folder to avoid confusion. I still keep the old file in the backup folder just in case.

So, go ahead and install the new version and try it.
