Opening audio from Vegas Pro 18

Vincent-Frisina wrote on 11/4/2020, 2:35 PM

After selecting some audio in Vegas and choosing "Open in Sound Forge", it loads both the audio and the video into Sound Forge. I do not want the video to open in Sound Forge. Not only does it prevent the audio from updating automatically in Vegas when I tweak it and choose "Save", it also wants to save both the audio AND the video---as an avi or mov file.

How do I tell Sound Forge---and/or Vegas--to only open the audio I select and not the video? Thank you

@Vincent-Frisina

Hi

If you have not already done so, I would suggest you also post in the Vegas products forum here.

If anyone knows the issue is with Sound Forge you may get a response here.

However I suspect that it mat be Vegas Pro that is not set up correctly.

Welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Vincent-Frisina

Make sure your are right-clicking only the audio event in VP. Also try un-grouping the A/V events in VP or choose ignore grouping prior..
Try 'Open copy in Sound Forge' which creates a new PCM audio take. You also may want to disable the video preview and 'Video Strip' in Sound Forge. "Options> Data window> The late

I had already tried the excellent suggestions you posted, and thank you very much for responding. Yes "Open Copy in Sound Forge" will work. But I didn't want to open a "copy" of the audio, I wanted to open the audio itself. So wouldn't you think to "right mouse click an audio file in Vegas / then choose "Open in Sound Forge" from the pop up menu, to be the logical menu selection? Instead that selection loads video too for some strange reason and the default makes you save your work as a video file. Doesn't make sense to me. I could be missing something. I could be on to something!

Anyway, thank you again for your help.

Also "Open Copy in Sound Forge" doesn't make a copy that I have found. It actually works exactly like I would expect "Open In Sound Forge" should. "Open Copy..." even automatically updates the audio in Vegas if you do some editing in Sound Forge.And that's what I was looking for.

This appears to be a Vegas issue as well. Post this on the Vegas Pro (video) forum, lots of knowledgeable folks there. Though this is an audio related, few folks frequent the Vegas Pro Audio page.

In all the VP versions I have, 'Open copy' creates a new PCM Sound Forge file for each instance (Take 1, 2 ect) from the selected data in the VP event. OTOH, 'Open in SF' opens the entire file's audio, I do not have VP-17 or 18, but VP-16 and all the versions of SF function normally. Maybe try resetting both VP and SF.... or reinstall
