Open GL driver error

grace-feloowship wrote on 5/25/2017, 12:17 AM

All of a sudden my Audio Cleaning Lab software will not run. I reinstalled it. I deleted it and reinstalled it. I even, stupidly, bought another copy, just to see if that would work. Now I'm out $34.95, plus my initial purchase price. No one from Magix will help at all. The phone number on the website is for sales only, not tech support. It was a great product when it worked, but that is not the case anymore. AND I bought the software again. The error, everyone knows is "Can't find the name of Intel ICD Open GL driver" I was on with Dell Premium Support for more than an hour as their tech tried to fix it. They updated everything and did everything they could, but no luck. Magix said they would have someone get in touch with me, but the joke is on me. The fix on this forum didn't work at all. I need to do a video every week. I did over 20 videos in our series with the Audio Cleaning Lab. BUT NO MORE AND NO HELP!! I have a new Dell XPS 13, Windows 10's latest version, all updated Intel drivers, what else can I do?

Hi, and welcome to the Magix forums.

EDIT: please see the link below from ralftaro which gives the solution.

Sorry for my earlier post. I was upset and under pressure for a video deadline. I shall wait for support to reply. my computer tech resolved the specific error, but now my software opens for a second and then closes, before opening completely. Does anyone have an idea for a fix for this?

Hello,

The following hotfix should resolve this particular issue for any program within the Cleaning Lab product line:

https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download_do/251629

Good luck!

@ralftaro

Hi.

Thank you for posting the link here. I already had a copy of this file (having experienced the same problem) but am very pleased to see the link has been made public.

Hello! This fix worked. Thank you. With the help of an expert tech at Dell, Varun, we (he) was able to make the error go away, and then we ran this fix and the software is working again! But for you to know, Magix prompted me to update the Cleaning Lab, and when we did, it would not run. So we rolled back to the earlier version and it works now. I will not update unless I'm forced to, because the fix doesn't work for the latest version. Thanks Ralf!

ralftaro wrote on 5/29/2017, 3:14 AM

Glad to hear you're up and running again.

It would indeed be expected behaviour for the problem to come back after running the program update. The update would essentially return the configuration file that was modified by the fix to its default settings (i.e. using the less compatible but better performing graphics rendering mode). Simply running the given fix again, after running the update installer, would sort out the problem once again. I'm not aware of any case where this wouldn't have worked. So, you shouldn't have to compromise on the program version. 🙂

My computer stopped this program from opening. Think I'll just uninstall ACL, as I'm sure I don't need it. It came with Sound Forge Audio Studio update.

So now what? This link doesn't go anywhere anymore, it just goes to a default home page. Please, how do we get this program to launch?? When I launch it, nothing happens, it just exits.

@thom_bone Does the following help?

  1. Update your graphic drivers.
  2. Change graphic card settings in the driver to High Performance.
  3. In the program directory open the file MxQt.cfg with a texteditor.
    Change

[QtOpenGlEngine]
QT_OPENGL=angle

to

[QtOpenGlEngine]
QT_OPENGL=software

@jamesglynn Follow the instructions on my comment above and change [QtOpenGlEngine] to QT_OPENGL=software

thanks but unfortunately dell says my dell hd 3000 graphic driver is up to date!

SP. wrote on 3/13/2024, 8:32 AM

@jamesglynn HD3000 has no OpenGL 2.1 support. That's why you need to change the rendering mode to software in the MxQt.cfg file.

Hi

. . . . HD3000 has no OpenGL 2.1 support . . . .

The error message indicates Open GL 2.0 or higher is required.

The HD 3000 supports only OpenGL 3.1 however the HD3000 graphics drivers are not supported on Windows 10 or 11, you would need an HD4000 series minimum.

Is there something wrong with your computer? The image you posted shows the date as being 10/6/2022 ie nearly 2 years ago?

Hi,

Looking at the image posted by @jamesglynn he has SF Audio Studio 16.1, not SF Audio Cleaning Lab, an entirely different program.

i have both audio studio 16 and 17 and the screenshot i posted was i guess from the 16 which i sent then to magix support...

jamesglynn wrote on 3/13/2024, 3:30 PM

OK folks i do appreciate your help and i'm sorry to keep posting things about my issues because the magix software still works OK despite the open gl error messages i get when i launch the program but I'm attaching the read out from a open gl program that i thought shows my graphics does render open gl so that's why i started to send support questions to magix

SP. wrote on 3/13/2024, 3:33 PM

@jamesglynn You need Windows 7. Doesn't work on Windows 10 because the Intel drivers for the HD3000 aren't compatible with Windows 10 or 11.

jamesglynn wrote on 3/13/2024, 4:26 PM

ok thanks.i guess i really don't need the open gl since both audio 16, 17 and cleaning lab 4 work just fine. what am i missing out on without the open GL 2.0 rendering? is that just for the look of the program? thanks for all your help though!

SP. wrote on 3/14/2024, 5:14 AM

@jamesglynn Yes, some part of the interface seems to use it, that's why it's trying to access the OpenGL API. Without OpenGL it cannot be displayed. But I don't know which part uses it. Might be nothing major.

jamesglynn wrote on 3/14/2024, 7:46 AM

ok my friend,i just bought a used dell 5480 which i haven't set up yet, maybe it has a better graphics GPU,i will post the results when i find out if this community wants to hear about it, as i don't want to wear you all out but you do seem interested. thanks again for your help and consideration! peace, James Glynn

SP. wrote on 3/14/2024, 10:01 AM

@jamesglynn It looks like the Dell 5480 computers come with an Intel Core i processor of the 7th generation which come often with an integrated Intel HD 6xx GPU (depends on the CPU). That should work fine.

jamesglynn wrote on 3/14/2024, 11:18 AM

yes i think i'll be ok with the 5480 i7 .. thanks gain for your patience with me. peace, James Glynn
