@Randy-Young Are you using a firewall or antivirus software other than Windows Defender?

Randy-Young wrote on 3/14/2025, 5:46 PM

Thanks for the quick response. Windows Defender is the only thing I use.

Also sound forge version 14 was the last one that worked correctly.

@Randy-Young Does it make a difference if you run Sound Forge as Administrator via a right click on the desktop shortcut?

Randy-Young wrote on 3/14/2025, 6:39 PM

Thanks for the suggestion but all my programs are set to run as adminstrator. But I tried it anyway, no luck.

@Randy-Young Ok. Can you upload a screenshot of all available file formats in the export window?

You can upload images via the blue arrow icon above the response text box.

Here you go. Does the same thing when using save as.

@Randy-Young So, the dialog freezes? Is that your problem?

That's odd. Maybe it's a graphics driver problem? Can you list your computer hardware? Are the drivers up-to-date?

I check for updates every day. Vegas 22 works fine so I would think soundforge 18 would work.

@Randy-Young Sorry, you didn't answer the question about your hardware. On your screenshot I can see that you are using Windows 11. Is your hardware officially Windows 11 compatible or did you install it with a workaround?

Be also aware, that drivers from Microsoft Update are usually a lot older than drivers from the hardware developers.

Vegas is the software that is most updated. Sound Forge 18 has not received an update. If Magix has no interest in Sound Forge, then Magix should sell it.

Hi @Randy-Young and welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community.
Are you referring to Sound Forge Pro? I have not seen a MP3 'Save' or 'Save as' dialog like that based on your screen shot. Here is how my MP3 encoder window appears in SFP-18, Win 10:

There are very few reports of encoding MP3 issues with SFP 17 & 18 and most are user related errors.https://www.magix.info/us/forum/not-saving-to-mp3-files--1345707/
Have you tried enabling the legacy MP3 encoder?

after changing Options> Preferences> Internal> ("Activate legacy MP3 plug-in" (Change FALSE to TRUE) sound forge 18 crashes when opening

fixed the crashing problem and changing Options> Preferences> Internal> ("Activate legacy MP3 plug-in" (Change FALSE to TRUE) seems to have fixed the issue of saving as/to mp3 files. We'll see how it goes and I'll report back.

also for reference when saving the files save as type MP3 Audio (Legacy) (*.mp3)

Randy-Young wrote on 3/21/2025, 5:35 PM

UPDATE: If you just use save file it reverts back to the newer mp3 codec, you have to use save as
