Noisy reverb when using Revolta 2's internal reverb and Asus Xonar DS card. All other reverbs are fine.

As above.  I have tried all iterations of ASIO, WASAPI MMI, etc.  It is only the internal reverb that is available on the Revolta 2 synth and only when using the Asus Xonar DS audio card. I have even tried different bit depths and buffer sizes. All other parts of Revolta 2 sound sound correct.  The internal reverbs of all other synths works perfectly (including Magix's itself, it is only the internal reverb component as generated by the Revolta 2 synth that is noisy. .

This occurs with any product that can use Revolta 2 Synth  Samplitude Music Studio 2015, Music Maker 2014, Music Studio 2. All with the latest patches as of November 16 , 2014

All other cards work ok.  (I have three in the same PC)

My mother board is a Gigabyte H87-D3H, 4 gig, Nvidia  GTX280 with Windows 7 32 fully patched and all audio hardware with latest drivers.

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue and if they have managed to sole it.

Hi

. . . . the Revolta 2 synth that is noisy . . .

What do you mean by noisy - is it distortion, pops and crackles, 'breathing' effect, or some other odd behaviour.

An example audio clip with the 'problem', along with the settings you are using in Revolta 2 would be a great help to to try and identify the issue.

Check the settings for the Xonar audio card as well.  What mode are you using this card in ie stereo (2 channel), surround sound (5.1, 6.1, or 7.1).

If using a Surround sound mode do you have the requisite number of speakers plugged in?

I have set the ASUS card to 2 channel - and have tried all others settings as a test and get the same result with all settings.

The noise that occures in the reverb compponent can only be described as what you would get if you reduced the bit density from 16 bit to say 4 bit......

It's really strange as it's only the reverb comonent that exhibits the behavour, not the dry component. For the tests,  I configure the Revolta as a basic sound with a simple sawtooth and with Revolta's reverb the only effect enabled.

Also, when I export the sound as an MP3, the resulting noise is not present - the mp3 is as it sounds on one of the other cards.

I am suspecting that it's just one of those strainge incompatabilities with the Asus Xonar DS and Revolta's Reverb.

Hi

After doing some digging it would appear that the Xonar DS does have some oddities:-

  • it appears to have issues such as distortion / lag when using USB headphones or speakers

  • the 32 bit drivers may be buggy - 64 bit drivers appear to be OK however you cannot use these because your Win 7 is 32 bit (I assume this is what you mean by 'Windows 7 32')

  • dual monitors can cause an issue

  • onboard sound card drivers not being installed can cause problems, can be disabled however the drivers must be there.

  • the sound quality setting must be set to maximum / high quality
