No longer possible to distort/resize pictures?

Jonathan-Parshall wrote on 8/25/2021, 9:51 AM

I'm using Designer Pro X18 on Windows 10. I'm a long-time user. It used to be that I could Import a raster image, and then, using the object edit handles, I could distort that image by dragging the top/bottom/left/right handles. NOW, however, when I try doing that, the tooltip says "Resize Frame," and the picture is simply resized inside its frame. I can no longer distort the aspect ratio of an image. I'm absolutely baffled by this, as the behavior seems to have spontaneously changed in just the past couple days or so--I was able to distort images on Monday this week; now I no longer can. Locking/Unlocking the Aspect Ratio padlock, turning off/on the various object edit handles; nothing seems to work. Any ideas what is going on?

Trolling other posts in the forums, it seems the my Info Toolbar is missing an icon.

If you right click on the “aspect ratio” lock, you’ll see a small menu. On which, you’ll see the item "smart transform". Deselect that.

Also, to distort the aspect ratio, make sure that the “Show Rotation Handles” is enabled.

You can only do this with graphics but not with bitmapped images. I confirmed this with their support department. If you have a workaround, please share with the community.
I just opened up to take a screenshot of this issue and apparently they just fixed this issue. The black handles were NOT there before and they are now. So now it seems like they fixed this. Thank G-d.

Did you download and install a patch between not working and working?

This is working for me again. With a bitmap, once I've imported it into a drawing, the first time I select it (by clicking on it) I see a little hand icon in the lower left, and a little magnifying glass icon in the upper right. Both of their tooltips talk about manipulating the object's frame. That's not what we want. However, if I click a second time on the bitmap, the "Show Rotation Center" icon on the top toolbar is highlighted, and the bitmap now shows the crosshairs in the middle, and the rotation spinner above the top of the bitmap. Now, if I select the object handles on either the middle of each side, or the middle on top or bottom, I can smoosh the bitmap and make it skinnier, or shorter, or whatever. Because we're no longer manipulating the "picture frame", we're manipulating the actual bitmap. I'm running 18.5.

I didn't download anything, it just suddenly now shows up, as it didn't before... quite strange.
