No Longer Able to Render Project

No Longer Able to Render Project

I have been using Magix Movie Studio for years without any issues...until now. I have the 2023 version and have had it for almost 2 years. When I go to render the movie to export....after about 30 seconds I get a box that pops up that says "Export canceled due to an error. Error Code:" It doesn't actually provide an error code number. The movie I am attempting to render is approx 18 minutes in length. I am attempting to export the movie at a frame rate of 29.97 in a resolution of 1920 X 1080.

Please bear with me because I am not tech savvy. I do have a gaming computer that is only 2 years old. The operating system is Windows 11. The processor is AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics (3.80 GHz). 64-bit processor.

I have tried rebooting the software, updating the software on my computer and in the Magix software itself, rebooting the computer, resetting program settings to default, exporting to a different file format other than mpeg-4 (AVCHD)...however that makes no difference, reducing the size of the movie by cutting out scenes (I have even reduced it to 10 minutes but still will not work), I even attempted to cut out all special effects to see if that was the problem but it still didn't export. I have however attempted to export a 2 minute movie and it did work. I have a large internal hard drive memory with over 220 GB of free space remaining and over 800 GB of free space remaining in my external hard drive. I export my movies to my external hard drive...however, I did attempt to render the movie to my internal hard drive but the same problem persists. I also have uninstalled the Magix software and re-installed it again.

My movies do consist of various files (from my drone, Lumix camera, even a point & shoot pocket camera).

I love Magix but I'm ready to give up and purchase another company's product as I don't see anyway around this problem. Can you please help me!

Hi.

Have you tried changing the programs settings for Import, Processing and Export to all use the CPU and see if the project exports without freezing?

The settings are found in the programs top settings bar under File / Settings / Program and in the Device Options tab.

The export may be slower but just see if it exports without freezing.

hi Ray,

Yes, I have tried changing those three to "CPU" (I just did it again) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Just to clarify....the software is not actually freezing. A box pops up instead that states ""Export canceled due to an error. Error Code:"...but no actually error code is shown. Any other ideas?

Just to add....the program was working fine two days ago but this problem began the next morning.

@joe-macnab Hi, There's a few things to consider

  • You say you tried exporting to the (C) drive, are the project files on the external drive & does it make a difference if you move those to the (C) drive & export also to the (C) drive, ( ignoring the external drive taking it out of the equation)
  • How much RAM do you have
  • Do you have a separate graphics card
  • Are all drivers up to date.
  • It's warm here in the UK, is your PC overheating wherever you are.
  • If the export stops at a similar place each time it could be a dodgy file,
  • Have your files changed, are you using a different camera now

Hi Gid,

All my project files are on the C-drive. I have attempted a few times to export the movie onto the C-drive but it doesn't seem make a difference if it's exported onto the C-drive or my internal hard drive.

I have 16GB of RAM.

I have a built-in graphic card.

All drivers are up to date (I just checked again).

I live in Canada and there is always a/c in the house in the summer so overheating is not an issue.

*****This might be the issue...the issue might very well be in the files themselves. Like I said I am using files from different sources (different frame rates). I just tried rendering a project I made two months ago and it seems to render fine. I am going to start this project over again and make sure all the files have the same frame rate. I will keep you posted!

@joe-macnab 👍 Try exporting the project but remove just one of the files or effects first, if that doesn't work put that file/effect back in (press undo), remove a different file/effect & try export again. Keep doing this but only remove one file/effect at a time & hopefully you can narrow it down to one problem file or effect.

Hi

. . . . If the export stops at a similar place each time it could be a dodgy file . . . .

It could also point to a change of frame rate mode, ie from Constant to Variable or vice versa.

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips each side of the timeline time where the error occurs causing the issue. See this tutorial on how to set up MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

If you see this line in the Video section

Frame rate mode: Variable

then try converting the clip to Constant frame rate, using a converter such as Handbrake, see this tutorial on how to convert the video clip.

Replace the Variable Frame Rate video with the converted video file.

@joe-macnab When I say 'dodgy' I should've elaborated that point, your files don't have to be the same frame rate & they don't have to be the same format, also variable & constant files can coexist on the timeline, mixing any of these isn't ideal but as long as they are formats that Magix can use it should export.

It's hard for me to discuss or test this as my PC is powerful enough to go through these details without issue normally, If however there is a 'dodgy' file it does show , Your PC seems powerful enough so I suspect it is more than '(different frame rates)' , do the MediaInfo thing suggested by @johnebaker

I am absolutely baffled by this issue. This program worked fantastic for years and now it won't render anything past 2 minutes and if it does....the rest of the video simply shows up black. The thing is...it doesn't matter what files I import...the issue happens in different places. I will try  @johnebaker's suggestion but I don't think that is the issue.

@joe-macnab Ok, yes you need t share he MediaInfo, -

The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, screen capture that page or Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here using the arrow button next to the smiley at the top of a new comment 👍

Like this -

---------------------------

Can you share screen captures of the full Magix UI, export options, Program settings - Device options. even if you think it's irrelevant we'd still like to see it 👍

If you don't know how, (forgive me if you know this) -

Press & hold down the windows key + Shift + S,

The screen will go dark &these options will appear at the top of he screen.

When you click on the top of the screen a screen capture will be saved in Notifications bottom right of your screen, click on it to save it somewhere,

You can upload them on this forum by using the arrow button at the top of a new comment. Post as many pictures as you can, the more the merrier 👍

-------------------------

Can you click your icon at the top of this page - My Profile & fill in your Signature with the full name of your CPU, GPU & amount of RAM, also inc the Windows & Magix version, this will then show at the bottom of your comments,

Hi.

If the only GPU you have is the one built into the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with a Radeon Vega 8 graphics chip then the files as @johnebaker could well be the problem.

Although @Gid said he thought your system powerful enough to cope with variable frame rate video files as he does not have problems, just look at the difference in computing power between his and your GPU.

Actually I should have highlighted the 3090ti.

Gid's GPU has enough vram to processes the whole project internally on the GPU alone. This is why I was hoping that switching you to using the CPU only would help at least complete the project. At least then the whole project should have been rendered using the software only and not relying on any form of hardware acceleration.

Another way to test the problem would be to use the timeline range markers to select each video file separately and then try rendering each file separately to see if any one file is responsible for the failure. Make sure on export that you have the 'Export selected range only' box ticked.

Ray.

Okay so here is what I did yesterday.....I tried several experiments. I took out all the special effects again....no difference. I took out all the titles....no difference. I converted all the files, as suggested by johnebaker, to a constant frame rate and then subsequently a varible frame rate....no difference. It is definitely not a particular spot on the movie because I am now using different files and creating my own 'test' movies just to figure out the issue. I quickly put together a video that was 18 minutes in length and I got the same problem. I then cut 75% of the scenes out to make a 2 minute video....and it worked. Anthing longer than that and I either get that pop-up box that says "error" or if it is a bit shorter (say a 5-minute video)...the last 2 minutes of it has gone mute (no sound). It seems to me it's not the files themselves (I use these types of files all the time and it doesn't seem to matter what type of files I use). I believe the issue might be the length of the video itself. For some reason it is having difficulty rendering more than a few minutes of video now. I've been using Magix for years (and this particular one for almost 2 years without a single issue). I have plenty of room in my internal and external hard drive but is there another memory that could have filled up that I am unaware of? I have tried exporting to both hard drives and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

@CubeAce Hi, I looked up his CPU, '8 core 3.8 GHz - Release Date:Apr 13th, 2021'  & just thought it should be powerful enough but I didn't look any further,

Actually I should have highlighted the 3090ti.

👍😉😁

@joe-macnab Thanks for the details, pictures of your Export options would be good.

With MediaInfo you need to click the View tab & choose Text, enlarge the window so it shows all the details.

I know you said it doesn't matter what media you're using but you say you're exporting at 1920x1080 29.97fps, I'm guessing you're using the Export - video as MPEG-4 option, but your MediaInfo says 3840x2160 59.94fps HEVC.

3840x2160 59.94fps HEVC is quite a PC intensive file even on my PC. the size & frame rate is double what you are exporting at, also HEVC takes more computing power to deal with compared to AVC, (video as MPEG-4 is AVC) ,

HEVC & AVC are both MP4, AVC is the old & well used compression technique, HEVC is the newer compression technique designed to accommodate the bigger res videos like 4k that cameras produce now, there's a lot more to it so you're better off Googling HEVC vs AVC,

When you converted your clips to Constant frame rate, try again this time reducing the size & frame rate to match your export choice, ie. 1920x1080 29.97fps. ?

-------------------

PS, if you right click the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen you can open Taskmanager where you can watch what memory gets used etc..

There's an option that will allow it to stay on screen all the time if you want.

@CubeAce Yeah, it was just a thought & prob not in the slightest bit related but I had to mention it. It's just weird that he can export 2mins but no more than that 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes it's two minutes, sometimes it's 3 minutes....and it doesn't cut off....it's just the sound disappears or the screen goes black and remains black for the rest of the video. If it's a longer video such as 16 minutes or longer...I just get that error box popping up. Perhaps it was my mistake but I posted the MediaInfo of a "non-converted" file....I used the converted files in one test video and still would not render properly. I also doubt I am using the "trial version"....I've been using this for years and besides...I just re-installed the software (twice) in the past couple of days. I am 90% convinced it has something to do with my computer. The type of files I have been using ....have been the same type of files I've used for years. Like I said before....it was working last Saturday just fine and this problem all of the sudden occured. Here is my next step....I am going to install the software on my daughter's computer. transfer the files into her pc and see if this works on her pc. Will keep you updated!

@Gid

Hi.

It is possible that if the program was uninstalled at any point because of problems that not all program related files got uninstalled. So when the program was reinstalled it may still be picking up on code left behind. The fact it is exporting beyond 2 minutes (up to 5 minutes) but with blank video and no audio suggests it may be something none of us has seen before. There was a Windows update recently that was addressing memory management problems within Windows but not sure that applies here.

Ray.

@joe-macnab Sorry I didn't mean to imply you were using the trial version, it was just that 2mins kept on being mentioned & it stuck in my head 🤷‍♂️ @CubeAce Hi, yep if it does that with black screen & audio missing...

That MediaInfo says Variable, is that a converted file?

@joe-macnab @johnebaker @Gid @me_again

Hi.

In among the exif data it says language Japanese. I wonder if some Japanese characters have been embedded into the file encoding somehow. I'm not even sure it would be a problem but I have never seen that before in a video file data readout before.

Where did the file come from?

Ray.

I think I have solved the problem. The video is rendering so I will know in an hour or so for sure. I didn't think it was the files or the frame rate, etc. The problem was much simpler that that....it was my CPU usuage. I noticed the CPU usuage at the bottom left corner of the Magix editing box. It was hitting 0% at times. I made sure all other programs were off and I went on YouTube to find out how to increase the CPU usuage. I believe this is the problem and explains a lot of things. I will confirm this one way or another in a couple of hours.

I want to thank everyone on here that provided their input and help with this issue. It is rendering fine now. I feel kinda stupid because I should have looked at my CPU usuage to begin with. But that seemed to be the problem. Thanks again to everyone including the moderators for their help!
